Els Posted June 11, 2009 Share Posted June 11, 2009 He's coming!!!!!!! I nearly can't believe it. All those worries and arrangements and preparations are actually worth it. Oh so worth it... Thank you so much to those of you who helped me through my problems. I know there'll be more in the future but for now I'm just blissfully ignoring them! My worrywart self is trying to conjure up all the possible scenarios in which something bad could happen but I'm refusing to let it!!! To those waiting/hoping to meet theirs, don't give up hope!! Even now they're having some trouble with the card he used for the online booking. And WHO just raised the swine flu alert to pandemic level. The only airline that does direct flights from his place to mine doesn't accept his card for online booking (most airlines don't, actually, we just found that out...). He rushed to the airport office immediately after his exam and found it closed (at 4pm!!!). The ticketing office (why is the ticketing office in a completely different place from the airport??) was also closed. And according to the website, the ticketing office will remain closed all weekend. Airport office will be open, so he'll take the hourlong busride there tomorrow again... but neither of us knows if it sells tickets. I was like 'HOW CAN AIRPORTS NOT SELL AIR TICKETS?!?!?' and he shrugged. =/ I'm trying to think of alternatives (he's sleeping now, exhausted after the exam + ticket fiasco), but with my limited knowledge I really don't know what we can do. I suppose worst come to worst he could go to the ticketing office on Monday and buy the earliest ticket available. But I'm not even sure when that will be. We only had 10 days to begin with. It should be possible to buy tickets directly for cash, for all the poor souls without internet/computer/credit cards... right? That office can't really be closed all weekend!! That is ridiculous! You know who might have some ideas for you too -- Carhill. You should try PMing him! He said he travels a lot to everywhere and gets all kinds of deals on tickets, etc. He may have some ideas for you -- or at least suggestions about where to get tickets and not get yanked around in the process. So we're left with the travel agencies (carhill, who was a GREAT help, advised me that that was our best bet). We called several numbers, and he got increasingly frustrated as time went on. He did the 'head in the sand' thing again, yet I kept badgering him because I was just terrified that if he did things in his own sweet time, we would miss the only window we had and have to wait til next week. He finally said very shortly and brusquely 'I'll just go to town right now and see if any of the travel agency outlets are open', and left without giving me a chance to say anything. It was 8.30 am. God I feel so bad. He's just finished an extremely long week of exams, and he's exhausted. And he'll be the one paying for it (he refuses to allow me to help because I'm in worse financial straits than he) and coming all the way. Maybe I should have just let things rest for a bit. What's a few days? I guess I feared that the few days would end up in him not being able to come at all (eg. he goes to the ticketing office on Monday, they say the earliest possible date is Friday because it's all booked up, and that's too short to be worth it), and I was so terrified of that possibility that I just HAD to do anything in my power to prevent it. But he wouldn't extrapolate so far nor realize the urgency of things as much, because I was the one finding out most of the stuff and planning ahead most of the time, because he just has so much else on his mind. I really hope he was just frustrated over how things were (never in my life would I have imagined it was so difficult to plan a damn trip), and not me. Link to post Share on other sites
