I just heard the greatest news about a friend this morning.

I arrived at work about a half hour ago and I heard something that made my day. I have a coworker who was engaged to a woman that was a complete witch. She has broken up with him a few times and she just treats him like garbage. He can't do anything right when it comes to her and she degrades him public. To top it off she cheated on him once and blames him for it. He did everything to try and make her happy and it never seemed to be enough.

He just told me that he left her after a big fight they had last night. She caught an attitude about him actually wanting to have a life and he finally snapped and broke off the engagement. He envisioned a life of being married to her and realized he better dodged this bullet right now. It feels so good to see a man standing up for himself. I am going to take him out tonight on me. He likes those Japanese steakhouses places where they cut up the food on front of you so that is what we will probably do.

Another man grows his balls back.

Humm... if I were you.. I wouldn't jump too fast...

Next week.. she might call and he will be crawling back to her.. :o

Actually, Woggle, I'd jump immediately. If this gal is as awful as you say, the more immediate support he receives, the better. If he knows he has friends who will be there for him through the rough patch until he forgets her, he may be more apt to resist letting her back into his life.

true ... just don't rub it in or be snotty about this bad, bad woman. Just remind him that he deserves someone who respects and loves him, and who is willing to meet him halfway in a relationship. And keep repeating that, "You deserve someone who loves and respects you, man" – eventually, it'll sink in and he'll see that he doesn't have to sell himself short just to be in a relationship, and that it's worth the wait to find a good woman who wants to be good to HIM.

am laughing about the steakhouse bit, though ... I can picture the chef doing that airplane thing you do with little kids: "Open wide, here comes the plane!":laugh:

yeah I wouldn't be so quick to assume this was a permanent break up but hopefully it will be. like what the others say encourage him to expect to be treated better

Woggle, it appears to me that you only celebrate relationship cessations since they enforce your misogynistic beliefs. I've yet to see you celebrate happy relationships but then, I suspect you'd find flaws in those, all pointing towards the women.

When you're capable of seeing clearly and celebrating happiness, that's when I'll celebrate alongside of you.

I celebrate happy and healthy relationships but so few of them exist.

By the way a day later and he still wants out. She called him and started yelling at him for walking away from commitment but he is done with her.

Woggle, just own it. The world according to Woggle, is that so few exist because of women...

I can count the number of happy relationships I know on one hand and yes the women do seem to cause most of the drama that destroys the bad ones.

I stand with my first post. Until you're capable of seeing both positive and negatives in individuals in a gender-neutral fashion, I see nothing to celebrate.

That would work if we lived in a gender neutral world but we don't.

Unless your friend gets some serious counseling I predict he will continue to be abused emotionally by women.

Getting rid of one does not make for a bed of roses unless he can figure out why he let this women treat him like dirt.

I don't know about counseling because I am not big on professional therapists but I do agree that he needs to take some time on his own. We had a great time tonight and this weekend I am helping him move. He will be staying with a friend until he gets his own place. The lease on the apartment was in her name so there was not much he could do.

Yay for guys getting their balls back! This applies to women too. You don't have to put up with BS no matter what. I don't care who the person is. You can always walk away if you really feel you are being mistreated. It hurts now, but it will hurt way worse in the long run.

but he is done with her.

good for him. He deserves someone who is going to appreciate and respect him for who he is.

the counselling suggestion is a good one – maybe he'll be better able to head off toxic relationships at the pass ...

I told him it is the summertime so get some of the guys together and take a vacation full of debauchery. After my divorce my friends took me down to Montreal which is a much wilder city than I previously thought and we had a ball. I came back with a new lease on life. Nothing washes the ex out of a man's system like being a complete unrefined pig for a week or two.

I'm glad for the guy. I think casting it as a battle won in the war of the sexes is a bit dramatic.
