angie2443
I think I have an addiction to ice cream. For the last few months, I've been eating a pint of it almost every night. Right now I burn a lot of calories so I'm not concerned about gaining weight. I'm just concerned about the health problems that might come from eating this stuff almost every night. My husband is also starting to be disgusted with the stuff. Anyone ever had a food addiction that they've been able to end? How did you do it? Thanks:).
Trialbyfire
For a number of years, I was addicted to trail mix and snacked on it once a day, albeit only a handful at a time. One day last year, I decided enough was enough and just stopped buying it. If it wasn't in the cupboard, I couldn't snack on it. I haven't looked back since!
Lyssa
Angie.... step away from the freezer... now lay the spoon down... walk away, Angie... slowly. You can do it... It was a phase for me - I was addicted to ice cream but somehow I got over it. Can't remember what I did... just stopped eating. Now I only eat ice cream whenever I feel like it - say once in 2 or 3 months.
D-Lish
I wouldn't be overly concerned about it when you are burning enough calories to allow such an indulgence into your diet! You are entitled to indulge when you are counter acting it with lots of exercise! Maintaining weight/losing weight is all about burning more than you consume. In my job I don't stop moving. I have to inject calories into my diet so I don't lose too much weight. If I want a cheeseburger, I can have one. It may become an issue if you start lading a more sedentary lifestyle. If that occurs, then you can worry about adjusting.
Citizen Erased
Don't buy it. A pint is a lot of icecream, it's best to not have that temptation in your home. I bought icecream yesterday for the first time in months. I'm considering throwing it out when I get home.

Prodigal Princess
I live across the road from a 24 hour convenience store so just "not buying" something never stopped me from being able to binge on it anyway. Every treat imagineable is just one minute away. However now when I start craving something, I just go and brush my teeth. Problem solved - the last thing you feel like doing after brushing your teeth is eating junk.
quankanne
teeth brushing is good ... also try to wean yourself off it for at least 2 weeks. Believe me, it's not going to taste the same, and you won't want it as much.

Thanks:). have some gelato instead okay i was only being half facetious ... just quit buying it from the supermarket so that it isn't there within arms reach. and when you just have this mad craving for icey-creamy stuff, go out for some gelato instead; preferably some high quality gelato that actually costs more money per serving. think of it as a special treat to have once in a while and not something you must completely avoid. oh and good luck doing this in while the weather gets warmer. Trialbyfire
Yup, gelato/sorbet fan here! The only place I buy ice cream from is about a 45 minute to an hour commute. This means I have to eat my one scoop there because it's too long a trip for any take-home to stay frozen.
Author angie2443
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll try the tooth brushing and the gelato/sorbet substituation. I saw some beautiful pics of the gelato on Wikipedia, but it had wipcream all over it and I guess that's why it looked so good. I wish sorbet came in chocolat! The best idea is to probably keep it out of the house. I somehow feel entitled to it, though. I need to get rid of that attitude. Anyways, if I find a trick that works, I'll post it here. Thanks again.
laRubiaBonita
I wish sorbet came in chocolat! i have seen it in chocolate. i like the edy's real fruit bars myself.....
Trialbyfire
If at all possible, look for the real fresh fruit sorbets with no added flavours. The more natural the product, the better it tastes. To die for, especially pear, guava, green apple and mango!! *faints from pleasure thinking about it*

Thanks again. There are a number of ice creams, such as Skinny Cow that come in chocolate and other yummy variations to substitute for the full fat stuff and you dont feel guilty. Try also only limiting yourself to 2 or 3 tablesspoons per day as a treat.
