alwayslookingup
Hello everyone! I'm going to visit my LD boyfriend as his family's house in about a week (EEE!). They just moved and I want to bring something with me as a housewarming gift. Any suggestions?!
norajane
Do they drink coffee? If so, you can get a selection of gourmet coffee. Flowers in a nice vase are always welcome, too.
2sure
I love the coffee idea, great for entertaining whether they drink it or not. As far as gifts go....consumables all the way.
Island Girl
I like getting plants. I can never have enough plants and I don't buy them so I only have the ones I have been given as presents. But they last a while or forever and always enhance a home.
Lyssa
Flat screen TV!! Coffee, plants are nice or you bring a basket full of goodies - something like a hamper - nothing too big, just big enough to have a few packets of gourmet coffee, tea-biscuits, chocolates etc. At least, the whole family can enjoy them . 2sure
Do NOT bring them a cookie jar in the shape of the Pope's head. My sister gave me that once.

2sure
She came into the party with it and handed it to me like anyone else would hand over a box of chocolates or hostess gift. I never blinked. I have no idea where she got this, but I sent her the usual gracious thank you note. Between us, and its been like 8 years , we have never mentioned the fact that it is BIZARRE. At this point its a competition I think. I bring it out when she visits.

SophieA
I always give a nice bottle of wine.
IfWishesWereHorses
I think a nice plant is a wonderful idea. We received a very nice mat for the front door with our monogram, which we loved. That and the plants were my favorites.
Rollercoasterr
I love the plant idea. Plants make entire rooms lighten up. My step grandmother is a fan of getting towels and little knick-nacks and putting them all inside of a hamper. You can never have too many towels or too many hampers, but that would require that you find out what color they have their bathroom decorated in. Might be something to consider, might not. Coffee is also a good idea. Regardless of if they drink it or not, chances are that they will have guests over at one point or another that does! Also, wine and some nice wine glasses would be sweet too.
Sweetcheripie
When you all are saying "hampers" do you mean baskets? Hampers here (California) are the big baskets you put your dirty clothes in! But yes I think a nice gift basket, wine, or plant would be lovely.
Rollercoasterr
Um....I guess you could call a hamper a basket. http://amodernrenaissance.com/amr/images/hamperH500X500.jpg

Art_Critic
I was going to ask if the head comes out on holidays!! :lmao: Head on the holidays.. hummmm... If they like wine then a bottle of wine would be a great gift...
Rollercoasterr
Yep that is a hamper but that is huge! I think a smaller basket would be more appropriate. Definatly more appropriate. Nothing more embarrassing than falling because you're carrying a huge hamper. But then that really only applies to short people. If I carried that hamper you'd only be able to see me from like chest up. Being 5 foot 1 sucks.
Author alwayslookingup
Thanks for all the ideas!! I was thinking wine or a plant, but since I'll be traveling via airplane I'll probably wait to get something there now. Haha, and as for the hamper, I am also a shorty at 5' 1" so I would look silly too!! You guys are the best!
