joseffrost
I know everyone has their songs that get them through the worst, what's yours? I've been listening to a lot of Dylan and particularly Blood on the The Tracks. Just thought I'd post the lyrics to this little gem - it kinda sums up that period when you finally realise that no matter how much you love them, you just have to let them go. Over to Bob.. IF YOU SEE HER, SAY HELLO If you see her, say hello, she might be in Tangier She left here last early spring, is livin' there, I hear Say for me that I'm all right though things get kind of slow She might think that I've forgotten her, don't tell her it isn't so. We had a falling-out, like lovers often will And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill And though our separation, it pierced me to the heart She still lives inside of me, we've never been apart. If you get close to her, kiss her once for me I always have respected her for busting out and gettin' free Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay. I see a lot of people as I make the rounds And I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town And I've never gotten used to it, I've just learned to turn it off Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm gettin' soft. Sundown, yellow moon, I replay the past I know every scene by heart, they all went by so fast If she's passin' back this way, I'm not that hard to find Tell her she can look me up if she's got the time. Citizen Erased
Tool and lots of it. I don't like to torture myself with music when I'm depressed so I listen to something that is dirty and involving a lot of cursing. It helps.

Danzig
I've always liked this one by No Use For A Name On The Outside I'll see you on the outside and we'll never be the same after all that's happen what is it that we've gained? well I've made mistakes before and never live them down after all you've done for me I'm bound (don't say another word) To see you on the outside where we can both be sane (you're speaking for yourself) I'm bleeding on the inside a place you might have been but now I know I'll (never be the same) Well I heard you got a place and it's far away from here reality has sunk in now confirming all my fears I'm not gonna track you down and it's too late to stop thinking 'bout the time we have lost (I'm happy without you) I'm trying to forget you and everything we had (we didn't stand a chance) we're miserable and it's true, I haven't learned a thing but now I know I'll trust no one else (There was a time when we were back and forth, it wasn't easy) I guess that we're back where we belong one thing is for sure, it wasn't strong I'll see you on the outside, where we can both feel shame (You've never been more right) I'm dying on the inside, you're never coming back and now I know that whatever we go through my heart is stuck with you
SCooke
Postal Sevice . "Nothing Better", mostly because it was almost word for word the convo's between me and my ex. Guy: Will someone please call a surgeon Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart That you're deserting for better company I can't accept that it's over... And I will block the door like a goalie tending the net In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry So just say how to make it right And I swear I'll do my best to comply Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together? Girl: I feel i must interject here... You're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself With these revisions and gaps in history So let me help you remember. I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear. I've prepared a lecture on why I have to leave So please back away and let me go Guy: I can't my darling I love you so... But oh, oh... Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together? Girl: Don't you feed me lies about some idealistic future Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures Guy: I know that I have made mistakes and I swear I'll never wrong you again Girl: You've got allure I can't deny, But you've had your chance so say goodbye Say goodbye

Battlewax
I'm embracing my anger Blood for Blood - So Common, So Cheap ****ing your pussy was like ****ing the wound from a shotgun blast... With gang green! Sorry ladies but this song goes out to all the guys out there that have been ****ed over by that lie known as love Bottoms up. Looking back at all the times we had, I wish I could tell ya' that they weren't all so bad. But in the end we were just wasting our time, Yeah I knew what you were but I was out of my mind. Lost my mind... I knew you were common when we started this thing, So very common with you're everyday dreams. But I was desperate for a heart of gold, So I took a chance and I came in from the cold. Life's so cold... Let me let you in on a secret fellas if she sucks great cock she's a pro and if she spreads on the first date she's a hoe I oughta' have my ****ing head examined for screwing with a skank like you. But it wasn't like I really felt for you, I was just cold and empty through and through... I thought you were something but you proved me wrong. Money is your only god, what a tired boring old song. Just another coward out to sell your soul but it just goes to show that Nothing in this world is forever. And people are all the same. And there's no such thing as love. It left me choking like a candle in the cold hard rain. But there's just one thing I never told ya. You're numb ****ing broad You were so common, you were so cheap, Another coke snortin' slut from the barroom scene. But brother, I was so empty, I was so blind, I turned my back on the truth before my very eyes. 'cause sister, you could have been anybody. You could have been anyone. All I needed was anybody, All I needed was anyone. Check this out I was cold and empty and your body was warm You could have been one of those ****ing blow up dolls for all I ****ing cared Thanks for the ****ing memories you ****ing sow! Excellent
My ex pretty much ruined my desire for several months to listen to my favorite band through 15 years, Pink Floyd, because she had the same songs as me as favorites. Songs like Comfortably numb and coming back to life would send me into wreck-mode for hours

Pyro
I never cared much to relate a song to a break-up of mine, except when an ex cheated on me. My most recent GF apparently does, so she told me about the song Breathe by Taylor Swift.
Ruby Slippers
It was a couple weeks after the breakup when I randomly heard "Great Divide" by The Cardigans and just totally started bawling. It resonated particularly because one of our first dates was climbing a mile-high mountain, and we made a playful yet meaningful metaphor out of it, about facing our fears together. He was afraid of heights, in more ways than I knew. There's a monster growing in our heads raised up on the wicked things we've said a great divide between us now something we should know There's something to remember and something to forget as long as we remember there's something to regret something we should know There's a mountain higher than we knew it's high but such a bitter view a great divide between us now something we should know A great divide between us now on different sides of a great divide
sally4sara
My usual break up song is Fiona Apple's "The Way Things Are" I wouldn't know what to do with another chance If you gave it to me I couldn't take the embrace of a real romance It'd race right through me I'm much better off the way things are Much much better off, better by far, by far I wouldn't know what to say to a gentle voice It'd roll right past me And if you chalk it up you'll see I don't really have a choice So don't even ask me I'm much better off, the way things are Much much better off, better by far So keep on calling me names, keep on, keep on And Ill keep kicking the crap till its gone If you keep on killing, you might get me to settle And as soon as I settle, I bet I'll be Able to move on How can I fight, when we're on the same side? How can I fight beside you? So keep on calling me names, keep on, keep on And Ill keep kicking the crap till its gone If you keep on killing, you could get me to settle And as soon as I settle, I bet Ill be Able to move on So keep on calling me names, keep on, keep on And Ill keep kicking the crap till its gone If you keep on killing, you could get me to settle And as soon as I settle, I bet Ill be Able to move on
bluewolf17
Randy Travis "I told you so". Suppose I called you up tonight and told you that I loved you And suppose I said "I wanna come back home". And suppose I cried and said "I think I finally learned my lesson" And I'm tired a-spendin' all my time alone. If I told you that I realised you're all I ever wanted And it's killin' me to be so far away. Would you tell me that you loved me too and would we cry together? Or would you simply laugh at me and say: "I told you so, oh I told you so I told you some day you come crawling back and asking me to take you in I told you so, but you had to go Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again". If I got down on my knees and told you I was yours forever Would you get down on yours to and take my hand? Would we get that old time feelin', would we laugh and talk for hours The way we did when our love first began? Would you tell me that you'd missed me too and that you'd been so lonely And you waited for the day that I return. And we'd live in love forever and that I'm your one and only Or would you say the tables finally turned? Would you say: "I told you so, oh I told you so I told you some day you come crawling back and asking me to take you in I told you so, but you had to go Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again". "Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again".

Narf
Mest - Until i met you Shaking on the outside Because of what I'm feeling inside My chest is fu*king hurting And my stomach's fu*king burning I laugh when you are crying, You say inside you're dying, Because you gave up way too early, Your fu*king pain is so deserving... Don't wanna take it Because I fu*king hate it Why do we talk when All we do is argue Nothing to be said Except you make me wish I was dead This time I'm breaking off for good I never felt this way before Open chest, heart on the floor I never wished that I was dead Until I met you I fu*king hate the way I'm feeling Because my fu*king life's not changing You broke me down when you stopped caring Your fu*king misery's my healing Don't wanna take it Because I fu*king hate it Why do we talk when All we do is argue Nothing to be said Except you make me wish I was dead This time I'm breaking off for good I never felt this way before Open chest, heart on the floor I never wished that I was dead I never felt this way before Open chest, heart on the floor I never wished that I was dead Until I met you (Until I met you) I never felt this way before Open chest, heart on the floor I never wished that I was dead Until I met you I never felt this way before Until I met you I never felt this way before Until I met you

Cora
I have too many to name, but this was one of my favorites when I was going through that angry stage. "You Oughta Know" I want you to know, that I'm happy for you I wish nothing but the best for you both An older version of me Is she perverted like me Would she go down on you in a theatre Does she speak eloquently And would she have your baby I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother 'cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, till you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know You seem very well, things look peaceful I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced Are you thinking of me when you **** her? 'cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, til you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know 'cause the joke that you laid on the bed that was me And I'm not gonna fade As soon as you close your eyes and you know it And every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back I hope you feel it...well can you feel it Well, I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know
