I've opted for something more sublime: East 17's It's Alright.

 

This video's so hilarious, I can't help but laugh, no matter how bad I feel. The hat! The dancing! Make it stop! :)

Naturally, I am au fait with E-17's work (Stay Another Day being a particular highlight) but I had not seen the video for this ever before. The song took me back to a school trip to France when I was about 12.

 

But the video is hilarious! How did you find out that the only way to alleviate the symptoms of heartbreak was to watch this? Did we take this seriously when this came out or was it funny then too?

 

I especially like the bit at the beginning where he does a dance/mime to the lyrics "...child of the night." WTF?! Gets me every time (have watched it twice now). It's like a Vic and Bob sketch, what with the hats and everything.

 

I always felt sorry for 'the other two'.

It seems with each break-up, a song flashes through my head as the break is occurring. I don't have control over it. But the two most recent would be:

I know everyone has their songs that get them through the worst, what's yours?

 

I've been listening to a lot of Dylan and particularly Blood on the The Tracks. Just thought I'd post the lyrics to this little gem - it kinda sums up that period when you finally realise that no matter how much you love them, you just have to let them go. Over to Bob..

I Love Blood on the Tracks. What a beautiful song. I cried my eyes out the day he left. The words seem like they were meant for our situation. I love this song, the entire album is a classic.

 

Also, can't get "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" out of my head. Seems like I keep hearing it on the radio. (even though that wasn't the case in my breakup) that song hits me.

I'll tell you how: I was, actually, doing a really painful and intimate exercise from The Journey From Heartbreak To Connection - good book! - (which asks you to find the sanctuary deep inside yourself, where you are alone, as everyone is truly alone - or summat). So, there I was, counting my breaths and working through 'the layers in my heart' and that, and as I got calmer, all I could think of were these inane lyrics! I couldn't even remember who'd performed it so Googled the song and - ta da - I was truly rewarded for my efforts!

I do like that bit. I also like how he always sings 'Let the light of love shine FRUUUUUUUU!' I've now got it permenantly downloaded so I can be lifted any time I choose.

 

Vic and Bob is EXACTLY what it's like (Boy Story II!) Strange that the 'talented' one's name is actually Mortimer - hmmn! I'm presuming you remember the time when Harvey ran himself over after binging on baked potatoes and was hospitalised with his heel in the back of his head? (You shouldn't laugh but you've got to.)

at first I would listen to love songs like jack johnson and jason mraz now I'm more on a angry side of things because I just want these feelings to go away so I've been listening to this one a lot.

The avatar is of someone from Victorian times. Lifted from the internet. Don't know who but i have used his image on several message boards now. I feel a bit guilty cos he is probably dead by now. I might change it...

 

So, It's Alright came out in '93 (I wiki'd it too). In '93 I was actually 13 or 14 so I was lying before. On wiki it said that they went mental for it in Australia! Number 1 for 7 weeks! Crazy Ozzies.

 

I'll tell you how: I was, actually, doing a really painful and intimate exercise from The Journey From Heartbreak To Connection - good book! - (which asks you to find the sanctuary deep inside yourself, where you are alone, as everyone is truly alone - or summat). So, there I was, counting my breaths and working through 'the layers in my heart' and that, and as I got calmer, all I could think of were these inane lyrics! I like to think that poor Brian sang the words to 'It's Alright' as he went under the wheels and then subsequently in hospital. And he IS alright now, so it does work.

 

I actually sent the link to this video to a girl at work. Before she looked at it she told me how much of a fan of East 17 she was in the early nineties. Even went to see them live...twice. She went all quiet after watching the video and asked me to never mention it again. Ha!

Ain't being funny, Tauch but, if he was Victorian, I should HOPE he's dead..! I'm sure he'd be honoured, though, so don't worry about that.

I'm not sure 'alright' is really the word. I'm afraid I witnessed his croaking failed comeback on the UK Eurovision finals. T'were far from alright..

 

I have to say that, schadenfreude being what it is, if I ever feel low, I only have to think of the misfortune of Brian Harvey and I am alriieet again. Silver linings, eh?

This song is incredibly rude and obnoxious, but it worked wonders for me when I was feeling very angry and bitter towards the break up. Made me laugh every time.

 

The Bloodhound Gang - No Hard Feelings

 

I can't even post the lyrics to this song on here, they are extremely crude. It's the best hateful break up song i've ever heard though! Definitely made me laugh.

I listened to alot of Tina Turner..

especially "You Better Be Good To Me"...

it seemed to help to sing that at the top of my lungs in my car back in January and Feb. when my bf broke up with me.

(we are now back together though) :)
