Taucher
Northern Soul, Taucher? Classy! I've opted for something more sublime: East 17's It's Alright. This video's so hilarious, I can't help but laugh, no matter how bad I feel. The hat! The dancing! Make it stop! Yes I am classy. Haven't you noticed the top hat? Naturally, I am au fait with E-17's work (Stay Another Day being a particular highlight) but I had not seen the video for this ever before. The song took me back to a school trip to France when I was about 12. But the video is hilarious! How did you find out that the only way to alleviate the symptoms of heartbreak was to watch this? Did we take this seriously when this came out or was it funny then too? I especially like the bit at the beginning where he does a dance/mime to the lyrics "...child of the night." WTF?! Gets me every time (have watched it twice now). It's like a Vic and Bob sketch, what with the hats and everything. I always felt sorry for 'the other two'.
borbiusle
The Offspring - Dirty Magic: In my own simple way I think she wants me only She said Come over right away But she's just not that way Her little soul is stolen See her put on her brand new face CHORUS Pull the shades Razor blades You're so tragic I hate you so but love you more I'm so elastic The things you say Games you play Dirty magic I should know better than to think I'd reach inside her It's all a cloudy kind of daze She's not so sweet today She mocks me, I'm no fighter It all just seems like such a waste CHORUS Pull the shades Razor blades You're so tragic I hate you so but love you more I'm so elastic The things you say Games you play Dirty magic It's Oversimplified It's Oversimplified It's Oversimplified CHORUS Pull the shades Razor blades You're so tragic I hate you so but love you more I'm so elastic The things you say Games you play Dirty magic

redhighheels
Madonna - Take a bow All the world is a stage And everyone has their part But how was I to know which way the story'd go How was I to know you'd break You'd break, you'd break, you'd break You'd break my heart... So damn sad...it always gets to me, even when I'm not recovering from a breakup!
SoulSearch_CO
It seems with each break-up, a song flashes through my head as the break is occurring. I don't have control over it. But the two most recent would be: Not Meant To Be - Theory of a Deadman (this break was not painful) Unbreak My Heart - Toni Braxton (this one was very painful)
phoenix1
"Rainin' in my Heart", Al Green, anything almost by Al Green "Giving up" by Donny Hathaway, wrecks me every time "Maybe" Janis Joplin those are for wallowing. dashing daisy
"Broken Strings" - James Morrison/Nelly Furtado Let me hold you For the last time It’s the last chance to feel again But you broke me Now I can’t feel anything When I love you It’s so untrue I can’t even convince myself When I’m speaking It’s the voice of someone else Oh it tears me up I tried to hold on but it hurts too much I tried to forgive but it’s not enough To make it all okay You can’t play on broken strings You can’t feel anything That your heart don’t want to feel I can’t tell you something that ain’t real Oh the truth hurts The lies worse How can I give anymore And I love you a little less than before Oh what are we doing We are turning into dust Playing house in the ruins of us Running back through the fire When there’s nothing left to save It’s like chasing the very last train When it’s too late Oh it tears me up I tried to hold on but it hurts too much I tried to forgive but it’s not enough To make it all okay You can’t play on broken strings You can’t feel anything That your heart don’t want to feel I can’t tell you something that ain’t real Oh the truth hurts And lies worse How can I give anymore And I love you a little less than before But we’re running through the fire When there’s nothing left to say It’s like chasing the very last train When we both know it’s too late You can’t play on broken strings You can’t feel anything That your heart don’t want to feel I can’t tell you something that ain’t real Oh the truth hurts And lies worse How can I give anymore And I love you a little less than before Oh and I love you a little less than before Let me hold you for the last time It’s the last chance to feel again
mimiminx
I know everyone has their songs that get them through the worst, what's yours? I've been listening to a lot of Dylan and particularly Blood on the The Tracks. Just thought I'd post the lyrics to this little gem - it kinda sums up that period when you finally realise that no matter how much you love them, you just have to let them go. Over to Bob.. IF YOU SEE HER, SAY HELLO If you see her, say hello, she might be in Tangier She left here last early spring, is livin' there, I hear Say for me that I'm all right though things get kind of slow She might think that I've forgotten her, don't tell her it isn't so. We had a falling-out, like lovers often will And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill And though our separation, it pierced me to the heart She still lives inside of me, we've never been apart. If you get close to her, kiss her once for me I always have respected her for busting out and gettin' free Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay. I see a lot of people as I make the rounds And I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town And I've never gotten used to it, I've just learned to turn it off Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm gettin' soft. Sundown, yellow moon, I replay the past I know every scene by heart, they all went by so fast If she's passin' back this way, I'm not that hard to find Tell her she can look me up if she's got the time. She might think that I've forgotten her... don't tell her it isn't so... I Love Blood on the Tracks. What a beautiful song. I cried my eyes out the day he left. The words seem like they were meant for our situation. I love this song, the entire album is a classic. Also, can't get "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" out of my head. Seems like I keep hearing it on the radio. (even though that wasn't the case in my breakup) that song hits me.
mickleb
Yes I am classy. Haven't you noticed the top hat? I did indeed and I like it. Who is that avatar a picture of, btw? Naturally, I am au fait with E-17's work (Stay Another Day being a particular highlight) but I had not seen the video for this ever before. The song took me back to a school trip to France when I was about 12. My God, Taucher -12! I was 21 when that came out (had to Wiki this, I don't actually remember the first time I heard it!) Ooo - I'm feeling the burden of age bear down.. But the video is hilarious! How did you find out that the only way to alleviate the symptoms of heartbreak was to watch this? Oh God, innit, tho! I'll tell you how: I was, actually, doing a really painful and intimate exercise from The Journey From Heartbreak To Connection - good book! - (which asks you to find the sanctuary deep inside yourself, where you are alone, as everyone is truly alone - or summat). So, there I was, counting my breaths and working through 'the layers in my heart' and that, and as I got calmer, all I could think of were these inane lyrics! I couldn't even remember who'd performed it so Googled the song and - ta da - I was truly rewarded for my efforts! I especially like the bit at the beginning where he does a dance/mime to the lyrics "...child of the night." WTF?! Gets me every time (have watched it twice now). It's like a Vic and Bob sketch, what with the hats and everything. I do like that bit. I also like how he always sings 'Let the light of love shine FRUUUUUUUU!' I've now got it permenantly downloaded so I can be lifted any time I choose. Vic and Bob is EXACTLY what it's like (Boy Story II!) Strange that the 'talented' one's name is actually Mortimer - hmmn! I'm presuming you remember the time when Harvey ran himself over after binging on baked potatoes and was hospitalised with his heel in the back of his head? (You shouldn't laugh but you've got to.) I always felt sorry for 'the other two'. Bless 'em. I still think those two were actually one person. Anyway, so glad the message has been shared. Remember - we are the seed of a new breed, we will succeed, our time has come! Keep the peace. x
Funky
at first I would listen to love songs like jack johnson and jason mraz now I'm more on a angry side of things because I just want these feelings to go away so I've been listening to this one a lot. Taucher
I did indeed and I like it. Who is that avatar a picture of, btw? My God, Taucher -12! I was 21 when that came out (had to Wiki this, I don't actually remember the first time I heard it!) Ooo - I'm feeling the burden of age bear down.. The avatar is of someone from Victorian times. Lifted from the internet. Don't know who but i have used his image on several message boards now. I feel a bit guilty cos he is probably dead by now. I might change it... So, It's Alright came out in '93 (I wiki'd it too). In '93 I was actually 13 or 14 so I was lying before. On wiki it said that they went mental for it in Australia! Number 1 for 7 weeks! Crazy Ozzies. I'll tell you how: I was, actually, doing a really painful and intimate exercise from The Journey From Heartbreak To Connection - good book! - (which asks you to find the sanctuary deep inside yourself, where you are alone, as everyone is truly alone - or summat). I couldn't even remember who'd performed it so Googled the song and - ta da - I was truly rewarded for my efforts! It must be comforting to know that the deepest layer of your heart is reserved for this particular work of genius. I will look out for the book tho I am slightly scared that it will tell me my heart is obsessed by the work of 2 Unlimited or something. (You shouldn't laugh but you've got to.) Bless 'em. I still think those two were actually one person. Of COURSE I remember when he ran over himself in the very car that he was driving at the time. The baked potato detail is a new one on me though, but then my innermost layers aren't obsessed with East 17. I like to think that poor Brian sang the words to 'It's Alright' as he went under the wheels and then subsequently in hospital. And he IS alright now, so it does work. I actually sent the link to this video to a girl at work. Before she looked at it she told me how much of a fan of East 17 she was in the early nineties. Even went to see them live...twice. She went all quiet after watching the video and asked me to never mention it again. Ha! Laters T

Ain't being funny, Tauch but, if he was Victorian, I should HOPE he's dead..! I'm sure he'd be honoured, though, so don't worry about that. Check it out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/4130812.stm I'm not sure 'alright' is really the word. I'm afraid I witnessed his croaking failed comeback on the UK Eurovision finals. T'were far from alright.. I have to say that, schadenfreude being what it is, if I ever feel low, I only have to think of the misfortune of Brian Harvey and I am alriieet again. Silver linings, eh? Love the story about the fan. Tchuss!

4givrnt4gtr
Well, there are four main songs Almost doesnt count by Brandy is definitely what I bassically told him when we broke up, right after he told me he felt like he was holding back and didnt know why. "I can't keep on lovin' you one foot outside the door I hear a funny hesitation of a heart that's never really sure Can't keep on tryin' if you're lookin' for more Than all that I could give you Than what ya came here for Gonna find me somebody Not afraid to let go Want a no doubt be there kind of man You came real close But everytime you built me up You only let me down But everybody knows(everybody knows) almost doesn't count(almost doesn't count)" Me myself and I by Beyonce...cuz after all that IS really all we got "ME, MYSELF AND I THAT'S ALL I GOT IN THE END THAT'S WHAT I FOUND OUT AND IT AINT NO NEED TO CRY I TOOK A VOW THAT FROM NOW ON I'M GON'NA BE MY OWN BEST FRIEND" Bye Bye my baby bye bye by Jodee Messina....again, what it came down to. "Boy you sure look good there standin' in the doorway in the sunset light Maybe I read you wrong thinkin' you could be my Mr. Right I was puttin' my heart and soul on the line Said you needed some time, just a little more time to make up your mind Well it's been long enough Time is up Bye bye love, I'll catch you later Got a lead foot down on my accelerator and the rearview mirror torn off I ain't never lookin' back. And that's a fact. I've tried all I can imagine I've begged and pleaded in true lover's fashion I've got pride, I'm takin' it for a ride Bye bye, bye bye my baby, bye bye" and last but not least....this is something I usually feel after a break up, plus the first verse totally described my week. Runaway by love and theft It's been a long week, I've got a slow leak in my left front tire. I'm sick of where I work, my boss is such a jerk, don't care if I get fired. My backs about to break, no money in the bank, and she don't call me anymore. I'm down to my last ring, it's time to sell my things, And pack my bags, and never look back, run a parallel line with the railroad tracks, and make my get away. I put the pedal to the metal as the sun goes down. Leave everybody sleepin in this sleepy town tonight, and at the break of day, I'll be a runaway! At times like these country songs always seem to hit the spot for me
EricaH329
This song is incredibly rude and obnoxious, but it worked wonders for me when I was feeling very angry and bitter towards the break up. Made me laugh every time. The Bloodhound Gang - No Hard Feelings I can't even post the lyrics to this song on here, they are extremely crude. It's the best hateful break up song i've ever heard though! Definitely made me laugh.
sinkerswim
I listened to alot of Tina Turner.. especially "You Better Be Good To Me"... it seemed to help to sing that at the top of my lungs in my car back in January and Feb. when my bf broke up with me. Author joseffrost
Another good one, courtesy of the wonderful Lenny C: Leonard Cohen - So Long, Marianne Come over to the window, my little darling, I'd like to try to read your palm. I used to think I was some kind of Gypsy boy before I let you take me home. Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again. Well you know that I love to live with you, but you make me forget so very much. I forget to pray for the angels and then the angels forget to pray for us. Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ... We met when we were almost young deep in the green lilac park. You held on to me like I was a crucifix, as we went kneeling through the dark. Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ... Your letters they all say that you're beside me now. Then why do I feel alone? I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web is fastening my ankle to a stone. Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ... For now I need your hidden love. I'm cold as a new razor blade. You left when I told you I was curious, I never said that I was brave. Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ... Oh, you are really such a pretty one. I see you've gone and changed your name again. And just when I climbed this whole mountainside, to wash my eyelids in the rain! Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ... Maple leaves
This has got to be the saddest day of my life I called you here today for a bit of bad I won't be able to see you anymore Because of my obligations, and the ties that you have We've been meeting here everyday And since this is our last day together I wanna hold you just one more time When you turn and walk away, don't look back I wanna remember you just like this Let's just kiss and say goodbye I had to meet you here today There's just so many things to say Please don't stop me 'til I'm through This is something I hate to do We've been meeting here so long I guess what we done, oh was wrong Please darlin', don't you cry Let's just kiss and say goodbye Many months have passed us by (I'm gonna miss you) I'm gonna miss you, I can't lie (I'm gonna miss you) I've got ties, and so do you I just think this is the thing to do It's gonna hurt me, I can't lie Maybe you'll meet, you'll meet another guy Understand me, won't you try, try, try, try, try, try, try Let's just kiss and say goodbye
