Author Teslacoil
Hey, I never said I'd be getting her a "cheap" ring! However, I do have a BUDGET, and the less money spent on the setting is more money spent on the STONE. In the end, I think I'll do platinum unless it breaks the budget. Rollercoasterr
I honestly think that if the first thing that comes out of her sister or friends' mouths is "what metal is that?", then there's a problem with those people. I have never since I've gotten engaged had a single person ask me what metal my ring was made out of. It's always been on the diamonds and how gorgeous it is. Never the metal. I hate yellow gold with a passion, and was happy as a fat kid in a candy store with my white gold ring. Personally I would probably go with platinum because it seems to be a stronger substance. I've already had to have mine tightened because the setting came loose and I was afraid of losing my center diamond. I'll credit that with the fact that I am constantly handling things all day, and my ring does sometimes get caught on things. But the tougher the material is, the better. Claus
Hi, Palladium engagement rings and wedding bands are increasing in popularity in recent years as more and more big time jewelers endorse it as the metal of the future. Palladium is a more affordable alternative. Palladium’s steel-white appearance makes it an attractive jewelry alternative to white gold and platinum. Platinum is costly and that is it's biggest disadvantage.
leejaedong
Hi, I'm just curious, it's been almost a month since the last update on this thread. What did you get her? Did you go for platinum? I'm planning to propose to my girl and still confused on what material to go for.
g29er
I would go with Palladium. It will stay shiny and it will never need re-dipping like white gold will. It is also harder than Platinum and cheaper.
Trimmer
I say Palladium. That way when our energy economy goes down the tubes and the cold fusion folks get their stuff all figured out ("I gotta tell you guys - that look is comin' back!!!") then you'll be the envy of all your neighbors...
