Cora
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or tips. I think I suffer from migraines. I can't really afford to see the doctor right now since I'm unemployed and don't currently have any health insurance. I get these really sever headaches right above my eyes and they are usually on one side or the other. Sometimes it gets better and then the pain switches sides. It's so terrible that often I get really nauseated and they typically keep me from getting any sleep. This pain usually lasts 2-3 days give or take. Also, I usually get these headaches monthly during the time of my period, so I'm sure it's somehow related. I have been taking Excedrin Migraine with some relief, but most of the time it does not work! These headaches are just torture and when they hit it messes up my whole day. It's like I can't even function! They are very frustrating and bothersome! I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to anything that could provide relief? I first thought that certain foods I ate may be setting them off, but I only seem to get them around the time of my period so I'm thinking they are hormonal related. I'm awake right now because I have yet another one of these horrible headaches! Ughh!!! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks
Lyssa
I hear that chiropractic adjustments help but seeing that you don't have health insurance, you can try some home-made remedies such as laying in a dark room or herbal tea helps too. I usually take Advil for my migraine and get lots of sleep. Migraine's a b*tch!!!
sb129
Mine are hormone linked too. I took a daily mixture of magnesium, feverfew, butterbur and a B2? vitamin complex, and that seemed to help. Am pregnant now, so haven't had as many, which is just as well because can't take migraleve! I think magnesium is really important. Google the London Migraine Clinic, there is some really good information on there.
whichwayisup
I get migraines, not as bad as years ago, but they still suck! Drink alot of water, stay away from sugars, caffeine and carbs during your menstral cycle. Keep a diary, write down the symptoms and the food you eat. You may see a pattern.. I use liquid advil that helps, and if it doesn't, I take Zomig. Load up on vitamins, minerals and also as someone mentioned, your B2...B6 and B12 is important too!
lord alfred douglas
Migraines and incontinence seem to primarily inflict women. I think I should reflect upon this next time Im in a misogynistic mood and just call it even. Or almost even. It almost makes up for your putting us through so much hell

ThanksMost likely this is a standard migraine, but your primary concern right now really should be a proper diagnosis. When youre dealing with any neurological affliction getting a proper diagnosis is of upmost importance. I know you dont have health insurance, but look into state or federal programs for low income people. Im not sure where trouble melts like raindrops, butI certainly wouldnt wait for this Congress to pass health insurance anytime soon.
Els
Cora, so sorry to hear that. If it is that severe, actually, you might wanna give birth control pills a try? They don't always eliminate cycle-related problems... and there is a risk that they add some. But if nothing else is helping it really could be worth a try. The best would really be to see a doc though, just scrounge up some money somehow.. I thought the USA offers free or almost free healthcare for those who need it? I don't live there so I could be wrong.
nobody's girl
Here are some home remedies you can try: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/migraines.html For the record, I swear by apple cider vinegar for just about everything!
aimeeg
I was the same way. I had terrible headaches, migraines, whatever you want to call them. I went to the neurologist because I was worried I had a brain tumor. I ended up having "thickenings in my brain" , which I'm still not entirely sure what that means. But I did get prescription pills that do help me occasionally. Take a bath, that usually helps. Working out also helps my migraines go away.
Author Cora
Thank you all so much for the great advice! I will definitely look into some of the things you all have mentioned. I am going on day three now with this wretched headache. It's not as bad as it was last night, but still very bothersome! I'm just ready to be rid of it! Thanks again!
