jasminetea
DVTs can be really nasty, you're in the best place and its eminently fixable. I hope this enforced bed rest will have a silver lining, even if its just to make you lie still for long enough to be looked after by someone Sending you clot dissolving vibes
Author LucreziaBorgia
Well, here I am a few days later. I am still in ICU, but will be checking out tomorrow. What they ended up doing was running a wire up my leg along with a clot busting chemical. They used ultrasound and that stuff running along the wire to bust up the clot. The first treatment thinned the clot in my calf down by 50%, but the clot from my knee up into my abdomen was still solid. So, through the night I was on a megadose drip of Heparin and the next day they took a second look and found a stenosis in the vein in my abdomen. They ballooned the rest (deeply unpleasant, they had to knock me out the rest of the way even though my bp is very low) that was left and sent me back to my room. I have a filter in my right neck vein in case anything breaks loose and let me tell you - it is my comfort right now, knowing that even if I do throw a clot it won't go but so far. I have to say I really don't like hospitals in general, but the staff here is wonderful and helpful and they have taken great care of me. I hope to never step foot in this place again. I said that after my last chemo too, and this time I really, REALLY mean it.

Author LucreziaBorgia
Last night was my first night home thankfully. During my hospital stay, I would wake up at odd times in ICU yelling and that was alarming to the nursing staff to say the least. I was having vivid and horribly disorienting dreams - of course being on a Fentanyl drip, with hourly doses of my choice of morphine injection, oxycodone, and some other stuff I didn't catch the name of (narco? narcan? can't recall) that isn't too surprising. I did wake up a few times last night disoriented, but it was mainly that 'sleep paralysis' thing and that can be terrifying. In one instance, I 'woke' and could see the light from my closet and kept hearing the burring of a horribly loud insect in my dream and can recall forcing myself to crawl out of bed after it and it was like struggling through molasses. I didn't actually fall out of bed, but getting out of bed was me slipping back into sleep. I dreamed that I was hanging out with Jake Gyllenhaal (a long time crush of mine regardless of his Toothy Tile closeted life) who I would love to bang at least once in real life. I dreamed of music (that was the sound of my alarm not waking me up), and finally woke feeling slightly ill. Everything still tastes and smells funny to me. If I am preggers it is very early yet. If I am, then great. If not, then great (but I'll be a little sad). Otherwise, everything is ok. Just listening to the Coltrane station on Pandora, drinking some weak tea (the smell of coffee makes me even though I am normally a coffee drinker), and enjoying the morning. The kid went to a big water park today and I have the day to myself. I fully intend to enjoy it, but not too much. Still have to be careful getting around.
grogster
Yeah, listen to soothing music, sip tea , daydream about guys you want to bang and ease back into the daily grind. You need to come down from your narco-dreams and reintegrate back into the drug free zone. I think you're a gamer, play a non-stressful computer/console game. Zone out and play, LB, so you can speed-up recovery and come back down. Welcome back.
