Eclypse
I'm 18 years old. I think that's fairly young. I am finding a lot of gray hairs on my head. It is rather worrying. I found my first when I was about 14 and since then they keep coming even if I pull them out. They are mainly concentrated around the top of my head, and can get quite visible. I have become really self conscious of this, especially when talking to girls, cause I worry what they will think when they see the white in my head. I guess I'm lucky in that I have a really rich, full head of dark brown hair. It's just the grays that worry me. Has anyone ever experienced going gray at a young age? And I don't know if it will spread until my whole head is gray. They don't seem to be spreading yet, although it does always look like there is more each time. That could be my imagination though. greengenie
I would definitely ask someone about it, as I believe I've heard things about prematurely greying somewhere. If it gets more serious you might want to check with a professional.

baker23
I can understand your problem, but there is really not much you can do about it. I have very young cousins who have gray hair, and by young I mean as young as 5 years old. I have a 14 yr old cousin whose hair is probably 20% gray, and his father is in his thirties and most of his hair already turned white . Just a few weeks ago, my 5 year old cousin came over to visit us, and I saw a long white hair on her, her brother is 10, and he has a few white hairs as well.
JohnnyBlaze
Stress related, maybe? When I was around your age, I was with a girl (long-term) and after a year or two, I started getting greys. I'd joke with her that she was the reason I was going grey. Well, after we split up, sure enough, a few months later the grey was gone. It turned out she really did cause them! quankanne
if premature greying isn't in your family history, stress most likely is the culprit. I've inherited my mom's dark complexion and hair, but I've noticed that when each of my parents died, I started finding more than just the occasional grey hair. Interestingly enough, when my stress levels went down, my hair started doing it's normal thing, growing in black!
Author Eclypse
Thanks for those replies. My dad only got his first gray hairs around 38-9. My grandad is in his mid 70s and still only has about 40% of his hair gray. It is amazing. I think this might be cause of stress. I was stressed a lot in school with the pressure of having to do well when compared with everyone. And now the same thing is happening in university. Not to mention it does seem whenever I have girl problems I get more outbreaks!!!! ' I guess I'll just keep ripping them out for now. Thankfully there isn't enough of them to make it be a bald spot.
