gorgeous!

I have one suggestion I did this and it helped. I have a slouching problem too. and in a strapless dress you can really see it.. So I worked on my posture before the wedding. It helped you can also get one those training things so you don't roll your shoulders.

Yes your friend is beautiful but so are you. If you look at the pictures of you two the difference is that she is very confident you can see it is her posture and her face.

She also poses for pictures a lot.

Yeah I know, I'm like looking down and not standing up straight. I guess maybe it's low self esteem that I do that.

Yeah, my friend is obsessed with taking pictures as you can see. I tell her she should be a photographer. She takes like 100's of them. She was here for one week and took 99 pictures of her trip here!

Okay so I got out my digital camera and took 2 pictures of me, one of my just standing slouching like usually and one standing up straight and confident. I can't believe the difference!! I look so much thinner and just plain nicer!!!

I actually think the other way around. I always thought my legs looked bigger in shorter dresses/shorts because my thighs are my "problem spot." That's why I always try to wear longer stuff.

The part of your calf right under your knee is the thinnest part of your leg (next to your ankle, that is). With a petite/short figure, that part of your leg should always show, whether in dresses or bermuda shorts. Right now, your dress and shorts stop closer to the biggest part of your calf, which makes your calves/legs appear larger than they are. Thus, if you want to cover your thighs but still show leg, buy things almost exactly at mid-knee. That way, the thinnest part of your leg is showing. Also, for shorts and dresses, buy things that make a straight line down from your hips - not A-lined like the dress with your friend. Trust me, you'll look thinner.

Most of the girls I know who slouch had large breasts as young teenagers. They developed early, and were self-conscious about it, so they slouched to sort of camouflage them. Perhaps that's what you did, and are still carrying it over.

Nevertheless, see what a difference posture makes?!? It's amazing.

Yes! I have dresses like that and they make me look AWESOME. I have this one that that is still covers some of my thighs but it kind of pulls in at the bottom and is form fitting enough that it shows off my curves without making me look heavy.

Yeah, that's probably what happened with me. And I thought if I slouched over my stomach wouldn't look as big but it's actually the opposite!

I lost so much weight when I cut high fructose corn syrup out of my diet. I had no idea that it was in so many things - nutrigrain bars, ketchup, worcestershire sauce for God's sake.

Well sure, if you had to cut tons of foods out of your diet because they contain that one particular ingredient, no wonder you lost weight! What's left to eat, celery sticks? :p

I don't think you have to cut it ALL out. After all, most good tasting food (like sweets) have that ingrediant in them.

I just think you need to cut it down to MODERATION. Like instead of having 2 nutrigrain bars everday have only 1 three times per week. You will still lose weight. Believe me I did low carb for a long time and STILL had to integrate at least something. You will go nuts eventually and binge on sugar.

I agree. Nutrigrain bars a few times a week will not make you fat or prevent you from losing weight, as long as the rest of your diet is healthy and balance. I eat honey on whole grain toast every morning and I lost 10 pounds this summer myself.

So I figured out how to lose the last 10 pounds!!!

I changed the workout that I do and now do interval training instead of just long distance running. I also began eating healthier and cut out all the junky sugar free processed stuff. I lost 5 pounds this week!!!!! :D

congrats! Just don't expect to lose huge numbers every week. Usually the 1st week you lose big than you slow down.

Yeah, I really just need to get rid of my thighs now, they are always the last to go for me!

After already losing 45 pounds, and being only 120 now, losing another 5 in LESS than one short week is NOT healthy.

What did you do, starve yourself? You were barely eating enough to survive as is, LB. You're going to gain it ALL back, and then some, if you're not careful.

WHAT? I didn't starve myself, I started eating healthier and only when I'm hungry. I did a pretty good workout on the treadmill about 5 days in a row, I didn't even know I was going to drop weight. It was probably water weight from all the sodium I was eating. And I will never gain the weight back believe me.

I didn't lose 45 pounds quickly either, it came off slow. So I won't and haven't gained it back since I did it right this time.

Oh plus I'm only 5'2, I can't eat and don't need as much food as someone who is like 5'7.

At 120 lbs., you lost another 5 pounds in LESS than a week.

Again, my position stands: NOT HEALTHY. None of this is healthy.

It's very easy to lose that much weight in a week because it is water weight. It's very easy for me to lose weight fast. Maybe it's not "HEALTHY" but it's what happens. The mistake I have made is that I haven't been able to maintain that weight loss, mostly because I have just gone back to eating lots of junk and a lot of food per day. I can't eat like a normal person to lose/maintain weight.

Posted

You are a normal person, you can eat normally. Also, you've been dieting for months now. There shouldn't be too much water weight left, as this is usually the first thing to go.

You will never look like your friend. You are build differently, wider hips etc. That's not a bad thing. Make it work for you, don't try to fit into a cookie cutter version of what's "skinny" or "beautiful".

It's not healthy BECAUSE it's hard, if not impossible, to maintain over time. Which you admit. Anytime you change your habits in such a drastic way that you are likely to revert to previous habits, any weight loss you have achieved is going to come back (and then some).

Stop fighting your body type. Really. Here's a radical idea - learn to love all of yourself, hips too! After all, your fiance does. Seriously, can you think of 2-3 positive things about having the hips that you have?

You would do well to be proud of what you've already accomplished, and focus more on how your body FEELS to you (strong? healthy?) than on what some scale says or what you think you "should" weigh.

I've been fighting it for a long time, maybe that's why I can't find a weight that I can maintain for a long period of time. Maybe if I had a best friend who looked like me it wouldn't have bothered me so much. Who looks thinner in the pic, me or her?

I can't think of anything positive about having hips, sorry. :(

Oh my fiance said that he hates the way my friend is built, he says she is way too thin and has no shape to her. He can't figure out why I worry so much about it either, as he tells me how sexy and beautiful all the time. I guess I'm the one who can't believe it.

For pitys sake would you LISTEN to the poor guy!

What more can he do to let you know that he thinks YOU are hot and beautiful?

He is marrying YOU and he keeps telling YOU that he finds you attractive.

LB, this underconfident obsession with 5-10lbs isn't healthy.

Most men barely notice weight changes that are that small.

What they DO notice is if you are constantly comparing yourself to someone else and moaning about not being perfect.

They think "I think shes perfect, why doesn't she believe me?"

My H always tells me he would far rather me weigh an extra few pounds and appreciate his cooking than weigh less and obsess about every calorie that passes my lips.

Some fashion tips for women who have larger hips, whereby the shoulders are more narrow:

  • A-line dresses that are not tight or mu-mu like. They need to fall sleekly along the hips.
  • No patterns or busy-ness aka solid colours.
  • Dark colours on the bottom, light colours on top.
  • Heels to elongate the body.
  • Shoulder pads to balance.

Shoulder pads? Are you serious?

Posted

Yes, shoulder pads. They're coming back in. As well, with shoulder pads you create the illusion of a more balanced figure, preferably hourglass. Draw it on a piece of paper starting with a pear-shaped body. Add broader shoulders to the look.

I get the theory behind it, I just can't reconcile myself to be able to wear them again.
