Women and motherhood

Summerday

Recommended Posts

My experience is that they are cold bitch managers with nothing to show for their lives but a couple of degrees, a complicit hubby (who looks terrible), a nice house with lots of themed rooms and a couple of animals that they treat as though they are children.

.. I always find something not quite right about them - especially once they hit 55 or so.. but choice is a good thing.

Thinking about it.. nearly all of those who I have known who deliberately did not have children had had abortions in their youth and where in fact long term single rather than married.

Take care,

Eve xx

Wow! Thanks Eve!

I do not have children, I am a senior manager, I have more that 2 degrees, I have a lovely house and I have a very lovely husband who looks great. I am not a bitch.

I have also never had an abortion. That to me was also a real throw away comment that could upset women who have made that difficult choice to have an abortion.

May I clarify that I dont see their choice in a negative way. Whether a person has children or not has no bearing on my life. What I have done is to highlight a higher likelihood of bitchiness/superiority complex in women as such who are childless and in management. I have seen this so often that its not even funny. My friends and I call them, 'women with dicks'..

Take care,

Eve xx

And I have a dick too? As for superiority - I happen to have a tremendous amount of respect for my colleagues who have children and also have a career. I do not feel superior to them because I know they have faced hurdles I have never had to deal with.

Do you mean literally? I dont know if you are being serious.

The caring industry is absolutely full of women as such.

Take care,

Eve xx

I also work in a caring industry. :)

Well maybe this is what differentiates you from the cold idiots I have come across and see all the time? One lady I know permenantly left the workforce after an encounter or two with people such as what I have mentioned. Now, regarding the abortion comment, I do not retract my statement one bit. Choosing a career over a child can and does leave many women to care less for other peoples children, even to the point of seeing them as vermin. I can spot these women a mile off. I dont think it realistic to think that there are no futher issues once an abortion is over and done with! BTW, I am not anti abortion at all, but will certainly point out what I have experienced.

So, each to their own but I cannot stand the attitudes of those who badger women who choose to have babies. At the root, I am speaking about a 'I win, you lose' form of interaction that can go subtly unrecognised but is definately felt. This is what I despise. I act favourably and compassionately towards those with a, 'I win, you win' stance whatever their situation. Sadly, I would say that women who do not have children overall tend to lean towards a 'I win, you lose' form of interaction within the workforce.

Take care,

Eve xx

I totally agree on each to their own. For example, I personally find it offensive when I am badgered for not having children. Or when people imply that I see children as vermin. Or when people make assumptions about the reasons why I don't have children.

I have read and heard so many women with children put down women who chose not to have children. Yet I have never heard one woman without children insult a woman who has children. Why do some women with children do that? Why would anyone care what another person does if it isn't hurting anyone? At least these women aren't having "unwanted babies" and using your tax dollars to take care of them. If intelligent and stable people are deciding not to have kids it is obviously a decision that has been well thought out by them. Don't get angry because they didn't give in to their hormones and make a mistake they knew they couldn't handle. It's just not fair.

Me too! I love children and am always happy when we entertain people with children in our home. I go out of my way to make things fun for the kids. I love my little cousins and nephews. I just don't want that full time and neither does my husband. Our home is anything but quiet. We have music and friends dropping by all the time. WWK don't let anyone make you feel less than a woman because of your choices. As time goes by people will get use to it as they do everything else.

I think Arlene means that those who don't have children aren't producing the next generation of taxpayers, the taxpayers who will shoulder the burden of paying your state pension and healthcare etc when you're too old to take care of yourself, whose taxes will fund your free bus pass and any other benefits you may receive. People who don't have children aren't funding the cost of raising the next generation of taxpayers, but they still benefit from them in their old age.

Lat time I checked, childfree people still payed taxes. The taxes that fund YOUR child benefits and YOUR childs school. They pay plenty into the pot and take very little out of it until out old age, but even then, because we haven't had children and have saved more money, we're probably more able to fund our care in old age than those that have had kids.

I ave to admit that I would also be very disappointed if my kids don't have kids - I'd never have any grandchildren to raise and love, and I'd basically have wasted my time raising my kids because my genetic line would end with them anyway and all the things I'd taught them would die with them. I never thought about it before, but I guess I see childless men as being a bit less sad than childless women, but not by much. From a scientific standpoint, if you don't reproduce yourself you've basically failed as a biological organism. I'd hate to die feeling that I was leaving nothing behind.

You mean like Florence Nightingale or Mother Theresa...yeah what a waste of space they were. They didn't leave anything behind

Exactly. I pay tax and national insurance for which I get very little benefit compared to others. Whilst contributing to the funding of education and healthcare, I have no children and very rarely go to the doctor. I have also never needed to be admitted to hospital. With regard to retirement, this will be funded by the pension arrangements that I have made, i.e. I will still be supporting myself.

All in all, I am a contributor to the system.

Although your tone is a bit condescending I think there is some truth to what you say about some childless women looking down on mothers and being a more selfish type of personality

I knew this one woman in particular who had a womb as hospitable to life as a crematorium, it was like a virtual death camp inside there. God knows how many ghosts she gave up to the scalpel and suction-cup

She looked down on women with children as being unsophisticated and stupid for not pursuing pleasure as the principle and I think she hated men, especially men with any imperfections who she totally dehumanized

At least thats the way I saw it, but Im a bit bias I suppose. I still cant help seeing a bit of her in most of the childless women Ive met

Dreadful, just dreadful. Imagine women being educated AND ambitious.

Sickening

Cold cold people indeed

You've really openeed my eyes Now I thing about it women really shouldn't be educated at all and once they reach a certain age if they haven't found a husband, one should be found for them. Singledom is a serious problem in society too. :p

The childfree people I know happed to be very well educated. Educated enough to understand how birth contol works (unlike sooo may idiots out there).

What do most people think about women choosing not to have children?

I think they are fools and I feel very sorry for them, because they are missing the best thing in the world.

You are spoilt bacause you obviously have too many options. Also who do you think is going to look after you in your old age? yes other people's children that they have worked hard to bring up while you accumulate material wealth, have lie ins, go on foreign holidays and generally look after number one. Also you are denying your parents the joy of grandchildren. If I ever am blessed with a daughter(or son) and she said to me she was not having children by choice I would be really upset not just for me but for her becuase she is a cold fish.

Excellent post. I agree.

So, the vultures and the desperate for vindication decend as is the schizoid beauty of LS.

It was an interesting conversation to a point anyway. Happy word twisting/side taking all. Have fun.

Well, is because deep down they are frustrated.

A woman cannot be realized until she is a mother.

Women come to the world to be mothers.

(And mothers to all, not just children)

I agree with most of your views as well Eve.

I have also noticed that the most ruthless people I've seen in the forum, (the ones that have the "I win, you lose (I'll crush you)" attitude) are also childless.

I'm a male and I'm not sure if I want to have children. I think if anything quite a few female posters on this thread would convince me not to have one as I personally wouldn't want to end up well, what appears to be quite bitter. If it isn't enough that people have to shove their new car, house or 42" tv, down each others throats it appears they want to extend this to their offspring.

Also I do find it odd that people think having a child is somehow the end to their problems. Can't achieve anything in life? Bored and lonely? Have a child - that's the answer to all your problems isn't it! Really strange way to view parenthood in my opinion.

It does make me wonder what kind of messages some of them give to their kids. Hopefully some of the spite being levelled against childless women is just a case of stressed out parents having to make big efforts to play nice and patient for the kids....then letting it all out on a message board.

Agreed. I really should stop visiting internet forums!

Ha! Well - when they become nothing other than venting forums, as opposed to places where rational debate can take place, then you do wonder how much use they serve.
