Raderick
So my birthday happens to be tomorrow. A good set of people asked me if I plan on doing anything for it, and my answer is a simple 'no'. Not because I don't want to, that's just what's going on. For some reason, people seem pretty shocked by it. I haven't had a true birthday party in almost half my life (not even for my 21st), so at this stage in the game, I don't understand or know what I'm missing, nor do I really care. So, what am I missing here?
Thaddeus
Happy birthday! Birthday parties? Celebrations? meh *shrugs shoulders* Personally, I haven't been interested in them since I was a pre-teen.
nobody's girl
Eh, birthdays don't mean much after age 16 or so. I can't remember the last time I celebrated a birthday or even had a birthday cake. It's just another day.
kizik
You guys are a bunch of bummers. Birthdays DO matter, and if you have friends - use em. Go out for dinner and drinks. Maybe a strip club. See a movie. Do something FUN. This day is about celebrating the friends in your life who celebrate YOU.
Thaddeus
You guys are a bunch of bummers. Sorry, not laughing at you, I just thought the line was funny. My point was, why wait for a specific day? Who says you can't go out and have a great time with your buddies anytime? Besides, I don't wanna be the one in the restaurant wearing the funny hat and having the wait staff sing at me. kizik
Laugh away, bummer boy. I like wearing the pointy hat while the wait staff sings some birthday version of "La Cucaracha".

So, what am I missing here? If you don't care, then it's no big deal. But why not just go out for dinner or drinks with a few friends? Something casual and not 'planned'. The people who care are the same ones who plan and throw their own birthday parties (usually via a facebook event that they spam to all 400 people on their friends list) and then seem let down when most of them can't make it. Maybe because I'm just not a 'me' person or something but if that's celebrating I do every day by waking up, working my 8 hours, watching TV and sleeping.

So, what am I missing here? I don't get what the BFD about bday parties is either. I pretty much always do nothing for my bday. Of course, this is because my birthday is just after Christmas and New Year's, AND is over winter breaks from school. So couldn't tell you, cuz I don't think you're missing out. green_tea
Of course it's ok to do nothing for your birthday. The only times I have ever done anything for my birthday is when others have arranged it - I feel weird planning my own celebrations.
Devil Dog
I don't see a problem, I haven't had as many as most people on here, but the only thing I do for my birthday is buy something special for myself, and celebrate the anniversary of the Halo 3 launch.
Yellowboy
yeah, i've arranged it myself before but can't feel like a loser that i don't have good friends who actually thought about doing it. I dunno if thats too much to ask from some close friends...
shunter
I never plan to do something on my birthday. I agree with the other individual, you kind of stop doing that around 15-16 years old. Then the parties, if any, are arranged by friends. If it is my birthday and friends want to get together, great .. but i am not going to invite a bunch of people to celebrate my birthday. either they care or they dont. i guess i have been lucky in that each year people care and i have celebrations, but i probably would prefer to do without the parties if i really had the choice.
