Author Star Gazer
I went today. PCL strain, bone bruise and lateral meniscus tear on the right knee, confirmed by MRI. The left one is fine. Doc also said that I'm hyper-flexible (colloquially known as "double jointed," although that doesn't really exist), and that my ligaments are made more like bungee cords when everyone else has steel cords. This causes me to stretch more than I should, making me more prone to injury, particularly in my kneecaps. As a result, he said I should stop running and doing any deep-knee weight bearing exercises (lunges, squats, leg presses - all my favorite!!!) and do more low-impact, non-deep-knee exercises. He made me feel old.
sb129
You aren't old- its just your personal make up! I have joint issues too thanks to a misdiagnosis when I was a baby. You can work around them.
Meaplus3
I was always told ice for the first 24 hours then alternate between ice and heat. As to when you should see someone? I'd say if you still have swelling and pain after a few days then either see your primary doc or go directly to an orthopedic doctor. I hope you are feeling better.
