jumi
Hey, I really want to get to know people better on this LDR forum. We all here about relationship situations but what about.... you!? What are you guys into, interests... hobbies..., I don't know, everyone loves to talk about themselves, so I made a thread for you all to do that =). I know this doesn't have to do with LDR's, like this forum is designated for, but I want to get to know people on this forum better, since we all already have one thing in common right ;-). As for me... Horseback riding and music (viola) are two of the foremost important things in my life. I'm a college student... physics major.... cosmic phenomenon absolutely fascinate me, such as black holes, antimatter... EM waves...*drool*

Island Girl
Where do I begin? I am such a complicated multifaceted soul ya know! 40 years old, gregarious and successful Salesperson, loves reading (welcoming book suggestions as I have had poor luck lately - Jane Austin is my favorite also love Nicholas Sparks if that gives you an idea), writing, and social interaction of all kinds (clubs, dinners, parties, bars sometimes, etc). I grew up horseback riding and have been thinking of taking it up again just for me. I love the beach and the tropics not just because hubby is there either. I want to learn how to quilt (quank!!) and is starting to sew again because the clothes I often want I am not able to locate without difficulty. I'm looking into taking scuba lessons for certification. I show dogs both in the conformation ring and working trials. They are my passion and substitute children. (We want kids but it may not be in the cards for us due to geography and age...damn immigration making family choices for us...grrrrrrrrr) Politically active more so nowadays with Immigration Reform and Health Care Reform at the forefront and such hot issues. Bearandsue
Well I am 26 years young(and will be for another 5 years or so). I love reading and I just got into crocheting. I have a little girl who is 7 years old. She is very feisty and opinionated so i guess she is a mini me. I love the beach but I cannot swim. Bear is trying to teach me but it has been hopeless so far. LovingaScrapper I will add you on Facebook if you promise to sign up for farmville..... PM me your details. Ingenue
I feel like I'm posting a personal ad I'm a young at heart grad student whose SO is also a young at heart grad student. Yes, we both refuse to admit our ages and rarely do we ever act them, except when required in a professional capacity. I'm in the process of writing, but during my spare time, I enjoy knitting, cycling, cross stitching, cooking, computer games and reading good fiction whenever I can. I travel extensively when finances permit and I can often be found perusing used book stores for the latest book on my reading list. I can't swim, though I've always wanted to learn. I can't dance, because I have no rhythm but I can bake some darn good cookies and cheesecake.

carvidep
let's see... I am a recent college grad seeking my adventure. Spent 2 years studying music education which actually made me hate music more than anything else, so I switched to and finished with a major in Spanish. Still don't know what I want to do with my life, but teaching seems to be the best fit at this point, so I'm getting my online certification to teach English as a foreign language, then I'll be able to get my tush back on over to Spain so I can pick up where I left off on my explorations (and be closer to my cutie pie ). As for hobbies; playing trombone- though I haven't touched it since I graduated... it still feels like a part of my identity though haha. meeting new people and people watching, artsy-craftsy stuff, hula hooping, driving. I feel like I could really enjoy reading if I would just do it, but I get distracted too easily. OH! and I would LOVE to go running if I didn't come home every day from a job that is already physically demanding. Some day... lol
Lovelymisa
I'm Vietnamese, 24 years of age. I am in love with my Spaniard fiance from Barcelona, Spain We're been together almost two years and just 3 more months before I am able to be back into his arms...hopefully that will be the end of long distance for good Btw Carvidep, where did you go to obtain your online certification to teach English as a foreign language? That sounds like such a good idea for me since I have no idea what I would for money once I am back in Spain - I was thinking of just getting any sort of under the table job until I have legal papers to actually work. I love teaching and children- my goal is to later on in the future be an elementary teacher in Spain

I love teaching and children- my goal is to later on in the future be an elementary teacher in Spain Yay! Don't you just love Spanish boys??? I'm taking my classes through TEFL Institute which is based out of Madrid. There's plenty of other places to get the certification from, though. They have the online option as well as an on-location option where you'd take the classes and do your practicum IN Spain. I'm cheap and the timing with my job and lease were such that I chose online lol. Here's the website for TEFL Institute: http://www.teflinstitute.com/ As for working legally, I was told that I might have to do some under the table work, which I am not a fan of at all, so I'm looking at visas. Someone is actually looking up information on that for me now, so I'll let you know what she comes up with!
Lovelymisa
OOOH Thank you so much! Yesss Spanish boys are amazing! I think I'm going to take it online as well because in class is only available in Madrid and that is still too far from my fiance lol I've found another site that has locations available in Barcelona, 4 weeks class but its almost $2k ... I've got to think about that. BTW how is your online class coming along? Is it hard? Do you plan to relocate to Spain?
hopesndreams
You can find out about posters by reading their thread, if they have one. If they do have one, you will know more about them than what their closest family member knows. At least in my case.
carvidep
The class is goin' well!! it's not too tough. It's very helpful and provides all of the information needed to complete each assignment, which is typically a sample lesson plan. My final project is due on Monday, which I'm not too worried about. It's kind of like a glorified and much more detailed version of the previous assignments. And if you have previous teaching experience, it will definitely be a breeze! I'd like to get to Madrid by the beginning of 2010 to jump into the hiring season. I'll hopefully be there for at least 6 months to a year. I guess I should start my job search now! time is flying by so fast! That's awesome that you found a program in Barcelona! yeah, the classes definitely don't come cheap! For my practicum I'm tutoring in an ESL class. I think that being in Vietnam you'd have more of an advantage in regards to the course because English isn't the first language there. I'm guessing you've been to Spain before. What cities did you visit? I'm hoping to see a lot more of the country when I'm there! I loved Barcelona! Especially Park Guell (Gaudi) and Las Ramblas! Man I wish I could be back in Spain right now!! haha
Xelha
I'm 21 years old and I've been in a LDR for 9 months now. My bf is also from Barcelona. I'd like to go there in 2 years time to spend a year there, but I have no idea yet what I'll end up doing for a job. I'm a university student studying languages and I also enjoy playing videogames, watching movies, writing, and travelling.
carvidep
Xelha, it sounds like you and I have similar ideas, visiting Spain for a specified amount of time (well, kinda haha, I can't decide on mine) and feeling it out. I don't know if you're interested in teaching at all, but you could probably benefit from the TEFL program as well, especially since you study languages. un saludo! hehe
Xelha
Yeah, I'd consider teaching over there, but I'd rather find something else. Teaching has always been more of a Plan B sort of option for me. I think I'm more likely to do some variation of translating or interpreting.

You should definitely get started on the job search. I should be back to Barcelona January 2010 , Feb at the latest...I cannot wait! My boyfriend and I lived in Barcelona together for 2 years before I came back to California for gathering all the necessary paperwork for our marriage as well as to spend some time with my family. Hopefully all goes well and I go back to Spain in January and we get married and live happily ever after We were living right behind Las Ramblas...you definitely need to visit Barcelona again when you're back in Madrid. I've visited Madrid, Granada, Almeria, Sevilla, Malta, Valencia, and Ibiza (I looved Ibiza). Do you have facebook? How is your Spanish btw? I already know enough spanish to communicate and get by, but I am trying to master Spanish from home right now through books from Barnes and Noble, they're quite helpful! clv0116
Hi, I'm in my early 40's and I'm the resident c*ck around here apparently. Travel, photography, computer science, scuba and flying. Love to read and run but not at the same time. Where do I begin? I am such a complicated multifaceted soul ya know! 40 years old, gregarious and successful Salesperson, loves reading (welcoming book suggestions as I have had poor luck lately - The Baroque Cycle is interesting so far, and you should read 'The Road' before the movie comes out. marlena
Yay! Don't you just love Spanish boys??? OK, I just need to ask. What makes Spanish men so special? I am just dying to know. My daughter is in a four-year very serious relationship with a Spanish guy. I know a lot of young girls who went to Spain to study and almost all of them fell madly in love not only with the men but with the country itself. None of them want to return to their country. Do they know something that I don't? I visit often and spend large chunks of time there. Lately I've been thinking that perhaps I should shop around for a Spanish boyfriend! One thing I did notice is how affectionate they are with their women.

One thing I did notice is how affectionate they are with their women. hahaha I love this! I never knew that so many more girls love Spanish chicos so much! I'd say it's probably a mix of the affection they show, which is more than we see in public places in the US, and the fact that they're in an entirely different country. ...with good food. ...and no drinking age. The vibe I got while I was there was "live, laugh, and love". Plus, the architecture in a lot of those cities is so... European (I know I know). It all comes together like a romance movie. I bet that's it. I don't know, I'm just making stuff up now. Personally, I love the accents, the language, the history, and the intimidation of knowing that they know so much more than I do about their culture than I do. And not gonna lie, I adore my guys big brown Spanish eyes and super adorable eyebrows. Yes. eyebrows.
Maoky
OK, I just need to ask. What makes Spanish men so special? I am just dying to know. I thought it was just the whole "foreigners are exotic and sexy" kinda thing. Plus, spanish men are tall dark and handsome aren't they? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other generalisation. Anyway, I'm 17, about to graduate highschool, and really interested in psychology and to an extent, maths and philosophy. Everyone who posted here previously seems to have such an awesome life, travelling around the world and all that. I'm just sitting at home studying; no real hobbies except piano and playing sports in general at a recreational level, not competitive. It's scary thinking that one day I have to be like most other people here and get a real full-time job.. I just feel like learning for the rest of my life.
