I want to get to know you guys better

OOH Good luck with your online glass :) I'm really considering the Barcelona class because I'm not sure if online will be good for me. You should definitely get started on the job search.

I should be back to Barcelona January 2010 , Feb at the latest...I cannot wait! My boyfriend and I lived in Barcelona together for 2 years before I came back to California for gathering all the necessary paperwork for our marriage as well as to spend some time with my family. Hopefully all goes well and I go back to Spain in January and we get married and live happily ever after :)

We were living right behind Las Ramblas...you definitely need to visit Barcelona again when you're back in Madrid. I've visited Madrid, Granada, Almeria, Sevilla, Malta, Valencia, and Ibiza (I looved Ibiza). Do you have facebook? :)

How is your Spanish btw? I already know enough spanish to communicate and get by, but I am trying to master Spanish from home right now through books from Barnes and Noble, they're quite helpful!

I tried sending you a PM but it didn't work.

hahaha I love this! I never knew that so many more girls love Spanish chicos so much! I'd say it's probably a mix of the affection they show, which is more than we see in public places in the US,

Exactly. You can't help but notice this! Couples everywhere of all ages (and sizes) holding hands, cuddling, kissing, laughing, enjoying each other. ..most definitely, love is alwyas in the air in Spain! And, Ia gree, it is a "live, love, laugh and be happy" mentality that is simply infectious!

Personally, I love the accents, the language, the history, and the intimidation of knowing that they know so much more than I do about their culture than I do.

Ah, the architecture! Absolutely mesmerizing! And the language, so sexy!! Spanish songs really do something to the libido, I agree. Never mind the dancing!

I adore my guys big brown Spanish eyes and super adorable eyebrows. Yes. eyebrows.

Oh, yes, those eyes! Did I mention that my daughter's boyfriend is drop-dead gorgeous? He could easily be a model! You girls are SO lucky!!!!

Seriously, next time I go, I'll take my eyes off the awesome architecture and look at the men instead!! Who knows? I might bet lucky, too!!

Hi all,

I'm brand new here and wanted to say hi... I imagine this might be my favourite part of these forums (hmm, I wonder why...)

I'm from the UK originally though have always been a bit of a rootless wanderer. I was bemused to see other TEFL-ers around as that's my job, too. I started off in Germany and worked in various countries before finally finding my way back to the UK where I'm working and studying for my MA. It's too much like hard work for my liking, but thankfully the end's (almost) in sight!

I have a LDR with an American bloke, I was living there from September 8th 2008 until September 2nd... we met on September 10th 2008 and was definitely a "thunderbolt" moment. Thankfully I survived ;-) I've been finding it very hard to be away from him but I'm quite an independent soul in relationships anyway and our relationship so far was characterised by time apart as he worked/is working all over the US. That's finished in October so we're currently discussing the next step. It's exciting... but the paperwork looks terrifying, I haven't even read it... I'm scared by the way it all looks!

Anyway I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on here. It seems like a great and supportive community - just what we need when our dearest aren't exactly our nearest!

Welcome to LS!! Way cool that you teach through TEFL! Did you happen to come across many Americans teaching English abroad? I'm nervous about my chances in Spain haha.

Best of luck with your sweetie!! I love that you call him an "American bloke"! :)

Where do I begin? I am such a complicated multifaceted soul ya know!

40 years old, gregarious and successful Salesperson, loves reading (welcoming book suggestions as I have had poor luck lately - Jane Austin is my favorite also love Nicholas Sparks if that gives you an idea), writing, and social interaction of all kinds (clubs, dinners, parties, bars sometimes, etc).

I grew up horseback riding and have been thinking of taking it up again just for me.

I love the beach and the tropics not just because hubby is there either.

I want to learn how to quilt (quank!!) and is starting to sew again because the clothes I often want I am not able to locate without difficulty.

I'm looking into taking scuba lessons for certification.

I show dogs both in the conformation ring and working trials. They are my passion and substitute children. (We want kids but it may not be in the cards for us due to geography and age...damn immigration making family choices for us...grrrrrrrrr)

Politically active more so nowadays with Immigration Reform and Health Care Reform at the forefront and such hot issues.

yes horseback ride again! its so theraputic for the spirit. I just got a job on my campus so i can afford to horseback ride again and I didnt realize how much I missed being around horses.

that's awesome that you show dogs... I trained my cocker spaniel to do dog agility, she loves it! unfortunately i never had the time to compete, but i think it would be really fun.. especially since cocker spaniels arent too common in dog agility.

Signed up before, but never really stayed around >< But no time like the present to introduce myself right? :D

I'm finished my undergraduate degree in political science and now in law school. My sweetie's in med school in Australia which is on the other side of the world for me. He'll be there for 4 years. :( It's been about 8 months now, 2 more to go. At least he's coming home soon, so I can't wait!!

I'm Asian, so I'm rather petite (5'2") and my sweetie is also Asian, but is a head taller than me (6'2"). It can be a funny sight when I have to tiptoe to kiss him!! Haha. I love reading, drawing, singing (classical opera), techy things, being silly, cooking and debating political theories. I also love to debate medical theories, but that annoys my sweetie sometimes haha. I also love languages! My sweetie has very gamely put up with it and has learnt to talk to me in English, Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin), Japanese, French and sometimes Korean. I always make fun of his Cantonese, but his Mandarin is better than me by far! :D

I also love to sail, but can't abide cruises. I get seasick if I'm not in control ^^.. Sweetie always says I'm a control freak (am not! :p). But I'm lazy most of the time so I like to stay home and play... video games :D hahaha. I used to play MMORPGs with my sweetie, but it really distracts from our studies and even though it's fun, it can get competitive! We also do archery, but it's been awhile since I've been back to a range.

Apart from all of that, we're the typical Asian couple with the typical relationship: a high of love all around with occasional light showers of thunderstorms!

Well I've put this off for long enough, so I figured I might as well.

I'm 21. I live in Kentucky. I'm going to school to become either a wildlife biologist or a veterinarian. I still can't decide which. I'm a serious animal freak. I want everything and anything(well except spiders, but that's an insect). For a while I minored in horsemanship because I wanted to be an equine vet, but since I have developed this serious hatred for a crazy horse that lives across the road from me, I decided I'd better not do that.

I like to think up cute but annoying names for my fiance. Honeybunnybabybunnybutt is my current favorite, and I have no idea why. Must be something to do with my obsession with squeezing his tush ;). I spend most of my day glued to my blackberry and I never ever put it down. Mathew and I are currently planning our wedding for June 26th, 2010, and most of our wedding plans are done. We have our venue, photographer, honeymoon, reception, and my dress all finished. Now all that's left is immigration and I seriously, seriously hope that all of that is done in time to have our wedding at the time that we planned.

I love to read, I love to write, and I love to draw. I'm very artistic, but I can't do it on command. I have to be in the mood, or it just doesn't work out.

That's all. :love::love:

Hey,

When are you going to Spain? Apparently it has the highest number of US teachers of TEFL in Europe (though I met a LOT in Berlin, too) though some of them are definitely "under the radar" aka illegal. Which city are you headed for? The market's huuuuge out there anyway so I doubt you'll have any problems with that. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you!

Rollercoasterr - congrats on the wedding plans, how exciting! Where is your Honeybunnybabybunnybutt (love it, by the way!) from?

He's from Quebec, in Canada. Got to love that little accent! I used to tell him that I was only marrying him for that. ;)

Me too! LOVE animals!! But I hate insects. I know they have their own place in the circle of life so I don't want them all exterminated but I think they are scary and gross. Except ladybugs. I love ladybugs.

For a while I minored in horsemanship because I wanted to be an equine vet, but since I have developed this serious hatred for a crazy horse that lives across the road from me, I decided I'd better not do that.

I was the same way about being a vet until I worked as a vet tech and basically wanted to kill all the stupid customers who neglected their animals out of sheer ignorance. I think you are waaaay more patient than I am RC.

That one is Ab Fab!! So very very cute!!

I steal cute pet names on occasion - hope you don't mind! :o

I am the same way as well.

In reading what everyone is writing on this thread I am struck by similarities with everybody.

Is anyone else having this happen? Maybe there are certain types of people that take on and weather the challenges of LDRs...?

I think especially for international LDRs, you need to be a somehow culturally open minded person... and very fearless ;) I discovered people who have spent some time of their lives in another country for whatever reasons (and that's where you often get yourself in a LDR situation) tend to be more relaxed and have a broader view of the world.

I'm 24, study English/Media sciences, thank god almost done. Generally interested in everything related to pop culture, globalization, blah, apart of that love nature, friends, working out.

I live in Germany, my bf in Mexico, we both were living in NYC for some time, that's how we met.

Ok here goes....... Im a guy and my girl is Rayette. There, I did it......whew!!!! :lmao:

But here is the real story.

Im 44 and I currently work at a Chevrolet dealership as a parts manager. I have been working in this field quite some time and still have no clue why I decided to pursue it.

I love all kinds of sports, Im huge college football fan and since Im from Oklahoma you might understand why then.

I love playing golf even though I stink on ice at it. Its still fun to get out there on the course with friends and play.

I love music and love to play Rock Band and go karaoking. Whether Im a decent singer I leave to the pallet of the people that have to listen to me.

I have a Norwich terrier named Bubba. He got that name due to the fact that when he was a puppy, he had such an underbite and his bottom lip stuck out just like Bubba on Forrest Gump.

Im not good at cute nicknames like most of you are. I simply call Rayette my sweet baby or punk.....whatever mood she is in dictates that. :lmao:

I met her when I went to Springfield, MO for a job interview last May. I got finished and decided to take the short drive to Branson. Lucky for me, she just so happened to be vacationing there with her mom. I decided to eat some lunch at the Olive Garden there and she walked in. I had to talk to her or I knew that I would regret it forever. The rest as they say is history. :)

I will be moving to be with her in late December and we have our wedding planned September 25, 2010 on the beach at Seaside, OR. :bunny::bunny::bunny: It holds a very special place in our heart since she took me to see the ocean for the very first time in my life last October and we really thought that this place would be so appropriate for our wedding. I cant wait.

My plan is to go over there in early January to look for jobs during the hiring season, in Madrid. I'm not a fan of working "under the radar," which is why I want to know more about visas. A family friend said she'd research them for me, but I haven't heard from her in a couple of weeks. :-S

Thanks fro all of the crossing of appendages! ;)

Hey there! I'm new around here and so far I haven't been active but I guess it's about to change any day now. I guess an introduction is the polite thing to do whenever entering a new forum so here goes for nothing.

I'm a Finn, 21 going on 22. I study English filology and have German and general linguistics as my minors. Yes, I am a nerd and bookworm and I love it! My fiancee is a Swiss rock guy working as a light technician and as a head of the lightwarehouse at a bigger company. We are nothing alike but we are the same.

I have a passion for night life and have had the best conversations of my life in some dark corner of some random bar talking to a complete stranger with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The days I spend buried under books and papers and notes and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love to wander in big cities and take lots and lots and lots of pictures. This tends to annoy people because I stop a lot without any notice and never seem to be satisfied. My fiancee is an exception, though after spending a weekend in London with camera in front of my face, he forced me to leave the camera in our hostel on one day while visiting Amsterdam. I had it coming!

I was living in Switzerland for 2 years (where I met my SO) but am living in Finland at the moment in order to get my Bachelors done - the key to any university in Europe. I see my stay in Finland as a temporary thing, max 3 years. After that I'm off to the world and I'm going to take my honey with me.
