Devil Inside
Today on the ESPN NFL Countdown there was a feature on Mike Singletary over in San Fran and how he has his team run hills. Looked like an awesome workout. Has anyone here done this kind of training? How did it go? What did you do? How where the results?
Jexranger
Hill training is a b**ch we do it once a week at football training (Soccer) (we train 4 days a week, with a match on Wednesdays) Hill training is very hard because you're running against your own body resistance, its used for increasing power, co-ordination and speed, I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have much strength or endurance YET because it puts a huge strain on your body. What did we do? Oh god lol! 100m sprints, 15 degree angle that's a killer usually sick after the session. Dragging a partner up hill. Army Crawls up hill. Press ups head facing towards the top of the hill. Sit ups legs facing towards the top. Uphill Shuttle runs. Lots of stuff, its a very good training method to use because you're working against your own body weight and also once you adapt to it, running on flat surfaces ect is a lot easier. Author Devil Inside
Jex...that sounds awesome! I ran stairs on Monday because I didn't have a hill. I see what you mean about only doing it once a week. My hips and calves are hurting.
GorillaTheater
Jex...that sounds awesome! I ran stairs on Monday because I didn't have a hill. I see what you mean about only doing it once a week. My hips and calves are hurting. I know what you mean; when I lived in Houston I didn't have much access to hills but plenty of access to stairs. I used to do 32 floors twice in a row, 3 times a week. Best shape of my life outside of boot camp.
Lauriebell82
I do "incline training" on the treadmill 5 times per week. It's similar to running hills, as the program I do goes up and down as if you are running up/down a big hill. Even on the treadmill it's an awesome workout! The one thing that I did notice was that by the 5th day of running I experience some rib soreness. I am not sure if it is related to the interval traning or not. I consulted a trainer at my gym and he said that when you run up a hill you tend to suck in your stomach and your ribs stick out more, thus putting more strain on them. I usually take a day off and the pain goes away.
Queen of Hearts
I just found out that Singletary was the coach of the 49's. The other day, I walked in from the other room to where the TV was on and heard them say his name... I was like....."THE Mike Singletary!?!" This was immediately followed by my personal rendition of The Super Bowl Shuffle. "I'm Samurai Mike I stop'em cold. Part of the defense, big and bold, I've been jammin' for quite a while, Doin' what's right and settin' the style, Give me a chance, I'll rock you good, Nobody messin' in my neighborhood. I didn't come here lookin' for trouble, I just came to do The Super Bowl Shuffle" I am glad to see him out there as a coach. GO BEARS!
