Getting scared...

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody, Ajay here, requesting ideas/thoughts/opinions/personal experience/advice...

My story is long and involved, but here is my most recent dilemma: I'm to start moving in to his home soon, and I'm so scared!!! Please help me (I'm in the process of making a "list") with all the things I have to think of before making this HUGE leap. It's not like I'm packing a few things and going on a trip okay? This is the man I plan to spend the rest of my life with, and it is going to take a lot of time and work to make this a go...

Keep in mind I have horses, dogs, cats, aquarium (no kids -- these are my kids). He has a cat (one teenage son -- lives with mom). There is plenty of room at his house and acreage for the animals. I'm 40, he's 50 (no age-related problems to speak of). I'm retired, he's self-employed. His last relationship was over two years ago and lasted 20 years, mine was over two years ago and lasted 10 years. We were both commitment shy when we met, vowing to NEVER get seriously involved with anyone again, but here we are...

We've been through a lot in the past 18 months and have decided we want to be together, forever, marriage, the works. When I feel ready, he's scared; when he's ready, I'm terrified. "What if this, what if that?" (always worrying about something...)

We both want to make this move happen yesterday but realistically know we should take our time. We are truly, deeply, magically, in love and hate to be apart, but we do NOT want to blow this. This is the most important we have ever done, and we just want to do it right.

Whenever I think of making the move, I find myself happy, scared, tearful, anxious, elated, euphoric, and ready to scream. What is going on here?

It sounds to me like you are human and in love.

There's probably a stuggle between the older, more practical side of both of you and the younger, more willing to take chances part of you.

Don't worry, be happy!!! You'll take the fun and joy out of what you are doing if you let the older, more analytical side of you have its way here.

But at the delta

There are no signs

And the wise resigns

to setting free

blankets and fears

paddles and tears

Learning that only...

Light boats can follow

the way still waters go

And innocence brings us

to where all rivers flow.
