I am moving next month-so scared

Hello Everyone,

finally after nearly a year apart (we met begin of the year) I am moving 6000km across the ocean to be together with my boyfriend for one year (maybe longer if I get a work visa)

I am so happy:D but on the other hand totally terrified!!!!!!!!:eek: I am so happy that after such a long time being in a LDR with all the problems which occur we nearly made it and soon we will be together, but I am also so nervous about it.

It is such a huge step as I am giving up all my friends, family, work and so much more that sometimes I am thinking "oh my god what am I doing"

My boyfriend is not that much help because he is not in my situation and can't really understand how it is like (well no one really can't until you do it)

Don't misunderstand - he is great and he is thrilled that soon we will be together, but he is not the one leaving all behind.

So I am looking for someone who has done the step to get some advise in how you dealt with everything? You must know that I moved countrys before (because of work) but I was much younger then. But when I moved the last time it was soooo hard and I took ages making new friends. So now I am scared that the same difficult time is ahead of me.

It is strange because I am not so much worried about living with him because we get on so well and it is just a feeling that I have that things will work out between us. What scares me is living in a totally new country, new culture and that liturally all will be new.

Sometimes I get angry at him because he is not the one who has to move and then I feel guilty because it was me who wanted to move to him. I am totally all over the place and my friends here don't help at all because they are all so upset that I am leaving, so many times I just end up taking care of them.

Uhhh hope this post is not too confusing haha but my head is just full of things...

May i ask you, if you move from Europe to the states?

or the other way round?

or from somewhere else to Europe?

or from somewhere else to the states?

or is it totally different...?

Do you have the possibility to get back to your old job, if you don`t get a visa? (just to make you fell more secure, i hope you will become happy where you move to...;))

Do you have any kind of specific hobbies?

...

My brothers gf is from the states, she moved here, after more than three years of having a LDR.

She made quite a few friends at university.

I guess, the best thing to do is not to be too anxious about it (i know thats easy to say) and to be just relaxed and open minded.

Yes, of course, you give up a lot, but it sounds like a great opportunity and you always could go back to your home-country in case you needed to do it.

If you take your time in making new friends and don`t put yourself under pressure it will work all out...

just don`t worry too much, stay cool :cool:

good luck

lilly

I'll be doing the same hopefully by January. But I'm not moving in with him. As incredible as the idea sounds, I don't think it would be good for us just yet. Where exactly are you going?

PS very very excited for you!! Best of luck with everything and you are required to give us updates! ;)

@lilli

I will be moving from Europe to Canada :-)

Yes I have the option to get my old job back so thats one worry less :-) But I also have money to stay for 6 months but I am still hoping that I can find work while I am over there!!! Otherwise it would get too boring as my boyfriend will be out working all day. What I like to do in my spare time is sports like running and fitness. You are so right about not to worry to much...but it is hard laugh :-)

@AnnPod and carvidep

I will keep you all updated how I am getting on when I am over !!!
