hendersongirl
Hi everyone I am not very girly - I have never been ANY good at picking out clothes that look good on me or with each other... I am graduating from Uni soon and I want to look gorgeous for the photos and everything - I am just so sick of having no clue, picking out an outfit I think looks ok (but can't really tell) in the mirror, and then looking at photos and noticing how clashing I looked. I get conflicting advice from friends, mum, sisters, shop assistants... Usually the shop assistants are just trying to sell me something so it is always the most expensive item that looks best on me, and the people I know tend to think that the things THEY would wear look best on me. Which just spells confusion for me. I look most like my Dad and none of my siblings look anything like me, (I have three tall blonde slim sisters, grrr) so I can't just copy - unless I want too wear boat shoes, old jeans and polo shirts lol. It comes so naturally to some people! But not to me... Ok here are my specs Height 160cm (5'2") Bust 102cm (40in) Waist 75cm (30in) Hips 112cm (44in) I have red/ginger hair, and blue eyes, and pale/peachy/slightly pink skin. A round, even slightly square, face. Kind of manly. I've been told I am a classic Pear shape, and an Absolute Autumn. Any advice for colours, styles would be appreciated... I know the basics, like dark coloured pants, A-line skirts. I have an orange dress I was planning to wear - slightly burnt/rusty orange, not like a highlighter. V-neck with 1inch thick straps, tight under the boobs then flaring and flowing out to just below the knee. And I thought it would go with black strappy heels maybe with diamantes on them, and jewellery that is also black and diamonds. Does this sound good? Stupid? Thanks for any advice you can give... I feel a bit ridiculous posting this but I put on my outfit and I just have no idea whether it looks dumb or nice. Edited October 11, 2009 by hendersongirl
xpaperxcutx
If you're a cheery person, you can pull off a bright and eyecatching color like orange. But there are alot of oranges to choose from, depending on it's intensity, it might clash with your ginger hair. I would go with something light blue like aquamarine paired with carnation pink heels. Or a golden yellow dress with black heels.
Jilly Bean
If the people who know what you look like advising you on what to wear is confusing and useless, what is the point of asking strangers whom have never seen you? That being said, orange with red hair is a big no no. Particularly if you're a big girl - you'll look like a giant pumpkin. Wear all black. It's slimming, and you can never go wrong with the color. And it will set off your coloring very nicely.
Author hendersongirl
Thanks, both of you. papercut - the aquamarine idea sounds lovely, I love that colour! I'm not so sure about yellow, my skin is so pale that it can make me look ill. But maybe I haven't tried the right yellows. Jilly Bean - I had heard that orange and red hair clashes, but then I also read that ginger haired autumns "look stunning in orange," and this dress looked ok to me I thought... Guess I will rethink! I was going to go for the safe, all black, but it is graduation - meant to be celebratory, not a funeral... Perhaps I should stick with black anyway. I tend to wear all black on a day to day, because it is so much easier lol.
