A 3 carat ring can be as much as (and maybe more than) 75-100K, depending on quality. (I looked it up b/c I was thinking wtf?!) Seriously? Does she work? How old are you guys? Does she even know what that looks like, or is she just spouting off something she heard about from friends? Frankly, she sounds tacky and shallow. OP, are there any other warning signs whatsoever? If so, I would think long and hard about who you are committing yourself to for life. Finances are THE most common issue that married people fight about. If she is this ridiculous, rigid, and inconsiderate about the ring (which I like to think of as a gift), just think how it will play out in other situations.
