sb129 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 PS- a train could be a potential pain in the butt too.
anne1707 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 LB, the lace one is a million times more flattering, the strapless style is not the most flattering style on you. And it DOES look like a wedding dress. The most recent one looks cheaper IMHO. Don't forget that a train is only a small part of the dress that won't show in the majority of your photos- but the fitted upper part of the dress frames your face and is the part that needs to be the most flattering to your shape as possible as it will show in everything. Repeated just because this is spot on. LB - people will be wanting to look at you, not a train.
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Repeated just because this is spot on. LB - people will be wanting to look at you, not a train. True, but because we will be in a church facing the alter everyone will be looking at my train all spread out. Also I would love to have portrait shots of me with my train all spread out in front of me.
Lishy Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Would it be awful of me to say that none of them floated my boat? You have to wear the dress and not let the dress wear you. You are tiny and you need less fuss and more class ... The dresses you have picked are sort of old fashioned in my eyes
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Would it be awful of me to say that none of them floated my boat? You have to wear the dress and not let the dress wear you. You are tiny and you need less fuss and more class ... The dresses you have picked are sort of old fashioned in my eyes Nope, not awful at all. I'm taking everyone's opinion here! I get what you are saying about the old fashioned dresses..I agree they are. That's what I have always wanted though, I don't really like the more modern ones. It's a fancy old fashioned ballroom wedding, I need a dress that fits that setting.
anne1707 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 True, but because we will be in a church facing the alter everyone will be looking at my train all spread out. Also I would love to have portrait shots of me with my train all spread out in front of me. So all your photos will be taken from behind?????? Plus people will not be looking at the train and nothing else. They will be taking it all in and looking at you and your fiance as you say your vows I have just shown my H the two dresses - he overwhelmingly prefers the lace dress. It is SO MUCH MORE flattering
Lishy Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I feel bad as you are the one wearing it and all that matters is that YOU are happy! In my eyes you need less lace, I think a corset top in a sweetheart neckline pinching in your waist ... Less fuss at the top ... I liked the ones with the diamontes at the bust and a long train at the back Simple but classy is what would suit you in my opinion - Dont drown yourself in those vile lace patterns
sb129 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I think a train would drown you too LB. Honestly, the train is not the focus of the dress.
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 I appreciate your opinions guys, I really do. I'm not going to be convinced not to have a long train though, I'm sorry! I'm looking at Maggie dresses online and trying to find one that has the same siluette as the other one. Then the train can be extended.
MindoverMatter Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Long train = you'll look shorter. Also, to have those pictures where the train sits flawlessly on the floor during the vows...you'll need people to flatten it, to fuss over it etc. Fotos in wedding mags are staged, in a real church no one will want to do that, so the train will most likely end up less than perfect. Anyhow...do you plan on getting a removeable train?

Actually it will be my sister's job (the MOH) to fix my train when I am standing at the alter. That's okay with me and that's her job so she is going to do it! Nope, no removeable train. It will be bustled for the reception.
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Okie dokie, I found some new dresses. I think I'm too easily influenced... http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=winnie&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=A3290HC http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=June&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=S5245 These are the top 2 that I found. Now out of THESE what is your opinion? (not including the other lace one, that is out bc of the train)

zoe1983 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 as a fellow bride to be that is also dress shopping....make sure that you see what the dress will look like bustled before you buy it! I tried on some dresses with the longer trains and once they were bustled they made my butt look enormous! lol Plus its kind of hard to sit with them like that too! Also just one other thing...if you have a budget of 1000...which it seems like you do because a lot of the dresses you chose were in that price range....i say look beyond davids bridal. They have some pretty dresses but soooo many people shop there and it seems like so many girls end up with the same dress. If you check out Brides.com you can search by your price point and will get tons of different ideas. I personally probably tried on like 80 dresses before i found the one lol My mother wanted to kill me! The final decision on the dress is yours and if you want fairy-tale princess that is perfectly fine. However, I do agree with the previous poster that a more modern less glitzy dress would really flatter you more. The dress is supposed to enhance your beauty not take it over. You want people to be looking at the beautiful bride...not the dress that is wearing the girl. Your fiance fell in love with you and I am sure he will want to see your natural beauty on your wedding day!
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 A A A ! Lots of lace..I like the top portion... But I like the gathered waist of B Dress A is my favorite also! I looked back over the dresses and I think I do look better in a dress that's more fitted with straps. Plus, I don't think my fiance likes strapless dresses, he said once that it looks like you are wearing a towel lol. Also just one other thing...if you have a budget of 1000...which it seems like you do because a lot of the dresses you chose were in that price range....i say look beyond davids bridal. If you check out Brides.com you can search by your price point and will get tons of different ideas. I personally probably tried on like 80 dresses before i found the one lol My mother wanted to kill me! Yeah, I have been shopping at other stores that have designer dresses. I have noticed that the people at the commercial shops (Davids bridal, Alfred Angelo) are much more pushy and definately not as helpful. They just want to sell you a dress, they don't really care about helping you find THE dress. I get what you are saying about the bustle also, I make sure I ask the salesperson what the bustle will look like when I try on dresses.
Mary3 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Years ago when I got married instead of Davids Bridal , I went to a small wedding shop. I knew what I wanted because I took it out of a Bridal magazine . The dress I liked was $ 1,500 . I wanted to see if I could do it cheaper. I found a dress and it was beeeeeeeautiful and it was on sale for $ 255.00. I added sequens and some lace and bead work for $ 75 and Wallah ! I had the SAME dress !
Star Gazer Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I have just shown my H the two dresses - he overwhelmingly prefers the lace dress. It is SO MUCH MORE flattering I did the same thing with BF via IM. He much prefers the original lace one (that you now say is out). IMHO, I really, really do not like the new Maggie in your profile. It looks...not good. As for the two Maggie links, I really like those...particularly the "June" dress.
sb129 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I like the two maggie links too- esp June although the train on that looks similar to the AA lace one.
Star Gazer Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 A note, LB: Do you ever watch "Say Yes to the Dress"? The lead salesguy on that show gets really frustrated with brides like you, not because they're a problem for him, but for themselves. They can't commit...to a dress! Here, the more you look, the more confused you get. He analogizes the dress to the guy. When you find the right dress, you stop looking...just like when you find the right guy, you stop looking. Sure, other dresses could work, just as other guys could as well. But you have to commit to a dress that speaks to you. It seems to me that the Allure lace dress - the one you LOVED and said was THE ONE and started to CRY over, but only questioned after your mother said she didn't like it - was the dress that should have made you stop looking. Just my 2cents...
allina Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 The Allure dress! I don't like the other one much
melodymatters Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 When I was selling houses, the rule was not to show too many, too quickly, or the client becomes mentally and emotionally overloaded. I think you are trying too hard and too fast now, which will almost automatically make you doubt even your good choices. Coupled with the fact that you are easily influenced by other opinions. I just looked at the (dead) kennedy wedding, and carolyn bessette did not have a major train or a ball gown and she looked like royalty. Do not let your venue, which we have to admit will see 100 other brides that season, be the reason for your choice. YOU need to love it, and you need advice from a few TRUSTED friends. I love a lot of people in my life : that doesn't mean they have good taste. I personally would show my BF some pics of some of the gowns and get his opinion. That would not count as seeing the bride before the wedding, and as a guy he'll barely remember any details. BUT, it will give you an idea of what is floating HIS boat. Pick THE dress for laurie, that you know fiancee will like, that your friends ( here or in RL) who have impeccible taste agree on, and you'll have the magic formula. Good luck !
Rollercoasterr Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) LB, I(we, your LS bridal consultants) want you to pick the dress that YOU love. I agree with the post about Say Yes to the Dress. It's so easy for brides to start second guessing themselves the more that they look. It isn't right. You're trying to please your mother and not yourself. This is your day. When it's all said and done if you don't get the dress you want you aren't going to look back on the day with fond memories. You're going to look back and wonder how much happier you would have been if you had gotten the dress that YOU wanted. With that said, I understand about your mom. My mom and dad were married in the back of a christian bookstore. I think I've told this before somewhere. They had this wedding planned and then he woke up one day and decided that they should get married. So they did. She never got her princess moment so now she wants to run mine. We've fought over the cake(which I ended up giving up on), the venue, the flowers, everything. She has this whole day envisioned for me and when I don't follow what she wants she pulls out the whole "I didn't get to have a wedding" card. Don't let your mother do that to you. While she may not come right out and say it, that's surely what she's doing. Thats emotional blackmail. I've been living it for long enough to be able to recognize what it is. Don't leave your mom out of it, by no means, but don't let her run YOUR day so much that it becomes less and less of your day and more of hers. I wouldn't care if you wanted to walk down the aisle in a potato sack, and I'm sure that no one else here would either if that were what you truly wanted. If that was the dress that brought you to tears I'm sure you'd hear some complaints but you know we'd end up supportive in the end(potato sacks aren't that flattering ). But if its what YOU want then GO FOR IT. At the end of the day no one can tell you what you want and love more than yourself. Edited November 3, 2009 by Rollercoasterr
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 You guys are probably right that I'm confusing myself. I think I'm just searching too hard now and second guessing my choices. I do love the other dress, I just wish the train was longer. Maybe I can ask and see if the Allure dress can be extended into a cathedral train...
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Okay, so I called the bridal shop and asked if they would be able to extend the train into a cathedral train. The girl told me that she would call the Allure company to see if that would be possible. So we'll see!!! If the train can be extended that dress is mine!!!! I compared the pics and the lace one DOES look so much better on me!!! That's why it is so good to take pics and compare!
Author Lauriebell82 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Okay, update!!!! I can make the train into a cathedral for $100 extra dollars!!! YAYAYAYA!!!!!!! Who wants to vote for the Allure dress?
