Oh goodness! I received a call from the school nurse today informing me that she pulled a tick from my nine years neck. We think he may have just been bite the other day while attending an after school outdoor sport. Of course my mind is heading down the wrong road here thinking Lyme. The nurse was able to remove the entire tick, head and all. I guess that's important. She sent the tick home with him in an little envelope for me to bring to the doc in the am. The doc can send it out to find out what kind of tick it is and if it's likely to be the type that carries lyme. I'm worried. Anyone else know of someone who was bite by and tick and they were ok??

i used to get bit alll the time... and never have tested positive for lyme!!!

and until my husband tested positive for lyme, i would have never thought anything of a tick bite.

i am sure he will be fine, Mea.... just watch the area for a red ring that may develop around the bite area (like a bulls eye)

and it just deer ticks that carry lyme, and ususally it is just the baby ticks- although the bigger ticks can spread it.

I guess it was a pretty big tick. I took the bandage off to put a new one on and the spot where it was removed looked like it has scabed over and did not have a red ring. Would the red ring develop right away?

You know I'm only messing with ya ...

Your son will be fine..

On a side note and not meant to be a party pooper but

I never knew that lyme disease was so debilitating until laRubiaBonita posted her thread about her husbands experience..

It opened my eyes and I did some googling when she was posting about it because of the number of times I've gotten tick bites myself..

I use Tick Repellent now anytime I go into the woods up there

This last summer one of the dogs ran away at the cabin and she came back about 20 mins later with over 40 ticks..

but we use that tick killer, frontline on her so all was fine...

One of the upsides of fire ant infestations (like we have around here) is that they apparently eat all the ticks. Unfortunately, they'll eat anything else that holds still long enough.

I know you were silly.;)

I've heard it can be very serious. And it's strange because I guess it can produce a bunch of odd symptoms. With all the odd stuff that's taken place with me in the last year, they tested me for it like twice. I will have to buy some tick repell. You know, I guess I always thought as long as my kids stayed out of tall grassy areas they would be ok. Guess I was wrong.:o I just hope my son does not have Lyme.

also, the deer ticks that are carries of Lyme are generally in in the north eastern parts of the US.... not to say it is exclusive to that area..... but Generally.

and from what i know of Lyme, it can take 1-4 weeks before antibodies are present.

I am sure he will be fine.

I have pulled them off my boys before. No one has caught anything from a tick bite. My wife grew up on a farm and they got bitten many times.

I am surprised they are still out there in the cold tundra by you.

Mea,

I was bit by one on a train going to Bulgaria a couple of summers ago. The pain was awful but bearable. Thank goodness my girlfriend knew what to do. She removed it and ntified the security guards (real cute!). I was taken to another compartment (no, nothing happened) and notified the meds. They were waiting for me at the next stop. They just looked it, applied some alcohol if I rmemember correctly and I was fine.

I was scared silly as I hadn't even heard of them before. I swear some gypsy woman who had just entered our compartment had brought them in.

Anyway, I had no side effects and felt right as rain. So, I wouldn't worry about it. How is your little boy feeling?

Mea, your son will be fine. The deer tick, which carries Lyme is a very small tick, and you said that this one was large. So i'm thinking that it's a generic dog tick, and nothing to worry about. Take it to the Doc's anyways for your own peace of mind, and keep the bite area clean, and everything will be all right.;)

I didn;t know this. Mine was very, very small. I could barely see it. Anyway, I agree. Send it to the doctor's and keep the area clean. He'll be OK.

Yes, Marlena, the regular dog or horse tick is about twice the size of a deer tick. If you ever get anymore on you I will be perfectly willing to come and remove it and apply antiseptic to the wounded area.;)

You know , I don't think there are any ticks on Mykonos or Santorini. Perhaps that is where we should be?

That's it now I'm ticked.:p:lmao: JK of course. lol. Thanks sweetie:love: and to you to Bold jack.;)

Infact. last night my son wanted to see what a lyme rash looked like.. he was afraid. So we googled it. While we were at it, we were looking up ticks. He saw one that looked much like the tick that they pulled out, and according to the picture it was one of the kinds that does not carry lyme. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed here. I'll know more today after he sees the doc.

Actually Mea , where I live I wouldn't even go to the doctor, but would watch it for a while to see if there is any infection. The only reason I suggested it to you was because you live in the Northeast, where most Lyme cases are, and also because you don't seem very familiar with ticks in general. The deer tick is very small and orange in color. The dog tick is larger and more brownish. Hope this helps.:):)

but I'm sure he'll be fine.. don't worry too much about it..
