Clancy
I've read a several posts where women complain about their hubbies/boyfriends going to strip bars. Often these women feel some form of frustration, jealousy or anger about this. They often ask LS membres to give them advice. It seems to me very often they receive shoddy advice, either from people who have little expereince with strip bars or who are trying to purposefully mislead or placate the poster. First of all I'm Canadaian so all my experience has been with Canadian bars. I'm 51 years old now and I went to my first strip club when I was 8 years old. Yes, 8. Since then I've probably gone to at least 500 strip bars in various cities. I used to be an alcoholic and one of my favorite places to drink was strip bars. 1. Don't believe for a second that strippers are all "ugly skanks" as I've seen posted here at LS. There are bars where Penthouse magazine playmates strip, where porn movie stars strip and where pretty college girls strip. There are bars of course where the strippers are older and not so attractive but these are usually in the seedier parts of town. Some men actually prefer these types of bars. Most strippers are hired because they have excellent bodies and are pretty to beautiful. 2. Men do go to strips bars as a kind of bonding experience but generally the whole concept, often unspoken is that the guys could "get a stripper" as in "atttract her". Very few men make fun of the girls. Sometimes young 19year old to 25 year old guys hoot and holler a lot but mostly the strip bar experience is a quiet one. In many bars the men sit very close to the stage and silently scrutinize every pore of the womens body. There is usually a great deal of respect shown toward strippers. 3. Many, many strippers are heavily into cocaine. 4. Strippers will go out with customers. I've brought strippers to my motel room directly from the strip bar as dates, no charge. I've gotten countless telephone numbers from strippers. Strippers like guys who are free with their money. I don't mean in the prostitution sense but just large tips, buying them drinks etc. Any man can learn how to pick up or attract strippers. Strippers live a surreal existence and they sometimes like to get involved with a guy from the "outside" who will make them laugh, treat them with respect, take them to nice restaurants, and make love to them as opposed to taking sex from them. 5. Some strip bars are relatively tame. The girls strip, perhaps lap dance and that's it. Trust me very well on this though, there are strip bars where men can have sex with the girls. This of course means various acts of prostitution. There are other bars where for the price of a private dance $10.00 you can fondle the girl everywhere except her vagina. You can though caresss her buttocks and if you want, suck on her nipples. 6. Some strip bars put on extremely explicit lesbian acts. 7. I'm not saying these experiences happen with every man's visit to a strip bar. Most men just go look at the women and go home. 8. Hope I didn't ruin any guy's hopes of convincing his girl to let him go clubbin' with the boys.
EnigmaXOXO
Oh no, Clancy!...Now they'll make you turn in your Guy Card! Actually, I am elated with the unadulterated TRUTH in your post. Not just because I'm female, but because I have already been privy to the information from an ex-husband, boyfriend and gal pal who once actually worked as a stripper to support her four children. I think its great fun for guys, and a great way for a girl to make a living if she has nothing else going for her at the time. I've also been to several 'male' strip clubs with the girls when I was single, and although females tend to clown around more and laugh with the dancers, the premise is much the same. My own sister actually hooked up with a male stripper who looked good on stage, but ended up leaving her with a lasting memory of her fantasy come true ... an STD. Guess she'll never forget THAT night! As for me, I don't frequent them out of respect for my partner. He's already informed me that he wouldn't like it. So I think its only fair to expect that he refrain from going, too. He can shove that twenty in MY g-string. Heck! ... I've earned it!!

EnigmaXOXO
Now THAT was hilarious Enigma......and makes good sense....or was it cents??? HAHA! More like "cents." Those quarters are COLD! And so was that pole in the basement... Still have the knot on my head. We girls should fill the guys in on what male strip clubs are like. I don't suppose we'd ever get our men to walk into one and check it out for themselves. Funny, but many women don't have a problem going to clubs with men. Wonder why?? Author Clancy
Just for the record I've been to "women's" male strip clubs and goodness is the atmosphere different from the men's. Men will go to a strip club in construction boots. Women on the other hand seem to think they have to dress as though they were going out on an important date. They also display way, way, way more enthusiasm towrd the male strippers than men do toward female strippers. Also for the record I've been to gay men's strip clubs where again the atmosphere is different. And also for the record, I'm not gay but have a gay best friend and when we used to go out to drink together we had a deal where one night he could take me anywhere he wanted and on the next occasion we went out I could take him anywhere I wanted. So he often found himself in straight strip bars fending off the advances of the strippers who wanted him to pay them to dance for him and I often found myself sitting with a bunch of men watching a man stripping. EnigmaXOXO
They also display way, way, way more enthusiasm towrd the male strippers than men do toward female strippers. They sure do! And some of those ladies are down right RAVENOUS! In one club in particular, the "show" would start around 9:00PM and end at 11:00. The club would then open its doors to the general public waiting "upstairs" in the smaller bar area. Usually it was filled with anxious bachelors looking to take advantage of all the flustered ladies inside who had been readied and primed! People would mix and dance, just like an ordinary club, but the male dancers would often mingle after the show. The ladies didn't have to buy the dancers a drink or pay money for a chat. Usually the dancer, if he were single and heterosexual, had already targeted an attractive lady he had seen during the show earlier. Embarrassed to admit, but on two occasions, myself and another one of my girlfriends were approached after a show by one of the dancers who bought us a drink as a way to invite himself over to our table. Some of us ladies were even approached on the dance floor. Funny thing is, while these talented gents were very attractive and seemed very nice, they didn't appear to have a whole lot going for them 'above the belt.' It was kind of sad, because they seemed lonely and were genuinely looking for someone just to talk to and hang out with. I suppose, like many of the females in the profession, it was difficult to find someone who could appreciate them beyond their stage persona. I think it would take a very special kind of person to involve themselves seriously with someone in this profession. I know I couldn’t handle it personally, and was honest enough to admit it when the poor guy found the courage to ask one of us for a date. But if I had been the kind of person who was into lusty one nighters, there were certainly enough gorgeous men to go around. And the women didn’t have to pay for the all the extra attention they got at all … My sister’s little ‘gift’ came free of charge! (… humbly turning in my Girl Card)
BabyGirl
What Clancy says is true...my best friend from High School has been a stripper off and on for several years. Some of her regular customers would actually make her payments (car, house.) All she had to do was ask.
HokeyReligions
From my limited experience I can say that strip bars are as different from each other as restaurants are. The premise is the same -- they have strippers/dancers, but after that each place has its own atmosphere. There are some very expensive strip clubs around and some pretty cheap and sleazy ones too. I went to a strip club a couple of times with a group of women - one was a bachelorette party and one was a "girls night out" thing that I didn't know I was going to until we ended up there! I also went with a male classmate to 2 different guys strip clubs way way way back in freshman year of college. The expensive one had better dancers/shows - more of a dance routine with a beginning and an ending and the men were generally older -- working men vs. students. They were quieter and would enjoy the main show, but they also spent a lot of time talking with each other and there were more women patrons. The "cheaper" strip club didn't have the same acoutrements (props, lights, etc.) and the strippers didn't have a big production - they came out and danced for a while and when their musical selection ended they left the stage. There seemed to be more younger men there who would egg each other on and hoot and yell, etc. more so than the other club. What I noticed about the stip clubs for girls is that it was actually encouraged to touch the guys and they came out into the crowd more, whereas the women would come to the fringes of the group and men would move up front to tuck the money in. Men get themselves surrounded with the women and in some places they actuall bring the women on stage with them, or go to their tables or the bar, and grab the women and "simulate" sex acts with them. The closest correlation I can think of is blue collar vs. white collar venues. You are right about women tending to dress up and make an occassion out of it vs. men who just go as they are. Just like all restaurants serve food, have some sort of menu to choose from, all strip clubs have strippers and thats where the similarity ends. Just as better waitresses and waiters move toward more expensive restaurants where they get paid more and get better tips, the most attractive people WITH the best skills in dancing and stripping move toward the more expensive strips clubs. But that doesn't mean the cheaper ones have all unattractive people -- they all have to start somewhere.
Arabess
Enigma (...you naughty Poleshiner you!!!) I would think men rarely go to male strip bars because they don't want to appear 'gay'. Unless it's a night out with the girls...I don't think women hang around male strip bars either. Probably cause getting a man to pull down his pants isn't such a novelty. LAMO! yogi-mon
Although that seedie side of strip clubs does exist, its not common for ordinary joes who go "once in a blue moon" we just go out to have a couple of drinks etc, and watch a few good dancers. I dont agree with Clancy that it is this heedy seething event where men are cheating on wives etc. That stuff probably happens occasionally, but - truth be known, any man who has decency is NOT going to be doing any of that. Even when I have had lap dances, (and being single at the time) I dont touch the girls, or do anything like that. Even if I could touch, have sex with, fondle etc, I wouldnt. I dont know if that is the attitude at the male strip clubs, but my experience at the female strip clubs is what I stated above.

Most of the men who frequent strip clubs are not in committed relationships and cheating, and the men who are in relationships seem to feel differently about strip clubs then they did when they were single. At least that is what my husband told me and so have the married friends that now go once in a blue moon said the same thing.
Author Clancy
Yogi. Read #7 from my post. "Most men just look at the women and go home." We agree. While it's probably true that not many men date the strippers after a visit to the club, the sexual contact I describe between stripper and client in the club is extremely common. Some bars even advertise the "contact" aspect.
quankanne
ugh! just had a thought based on one of Hokey's comments: if a gentlemen's club had all nude dancers AND served meals, too, would the girls have to wear hairnets?

GeorgiaSongbird
I see alot of truth about strip clubs Clancy's post.. I'm relatively new around here so I haven't really seen any other thread about this subject.. The one thing I noticed about the few clubs I have been in.. I'll admit I don't have as much as experience as Clancy!! .. is there are alot of lesbians. More than I would have thought. My husband and his friends would go to the clubs and I had a friend who stripped to put herself thru college. She is a very beautiful woman (although there were some very "plain" women as well).. My friend made lots and lots of money. She did it until she was in her late 20s. Then she got a "real job" But when I would visit her at the club, (the first time I went - surprise - NO cover for the ladies WOOHOO and 2 free drinks).. the things that struck me were just how many of them used drugs and how many of them were lesbian or bi. Strange.
