What is casual?

OK, I'm recently divorced, seeing a guy who's recently divorced also. This has been going on for about a month. He has a lot of stress from his ex, his 16 yr old son, and his career.

Because of these pressures, we only get together once a week or so, and his schedule is always up in the air until the last second. I also see him briefly in the context of business about three times a week.

He has had to cancel and reschedule our 'dates' a few times because of the office, his son. Once in a while he does not call when he said he would. He seems interested and talkative one day, and withdrawn the next. Sometimes he lingers after sex, sometimes he leaves very quickly.

I asked him about these mixed messages, and he asked if we could keep this 'casual', that he couldn't handle a relationship because of these pressures. I'm cool with that for now, and maybe for quite awhile, but I have a few questions.

1) Is this guy shorthand for 'No chance on anything serious ever', or is a relationship possible down the road?

2) Does this mean just sex, no friendship..i.e. 'let's see how fast I can get my clothes back on'?

3) Will he be jealous if he accidentally finds out I'm dating someone, or will he be happy just getting some?

4) Is it possible that he is just moody and preoccupied, can I be reading too much in to this?

My bet would be on number #4.

I personally HATE moody people. I consider them as people who don't have enough respect for the people around them to at least be consistent in character. No matter if I'm sick, tired, stressed or even have one of my famous hangovers.....I'm still the same in how I respond to my friends and family. I expect the same out of others.

So, I don't know Evangeline. He doesn't seem to have the sort of character which will put YOUR feelings first. Maybe you can end up loving him thru it.....but I doubt he'll change.

Thanks for the input, though I don't mind a little moodiness. Yes it is a bit self centered, but after just ending a twenty year marriage, I can see some mood swings in his future.

This isn't a relationship I'm betting the farm on though. I do have other options, it's just that I like this guy best so far.
