The Price Of a Broken Heart

Recommended Posts

A north Carolina woman, Dot, who was shocked to learn that her husband of eighteen years was leaving her for his secretary Lynn. Relying on an underused law, Dot boldly took Lynn to court, suing her for one million dollar...

Dot did win $1 million dollar but did not win back his husband's heart...

I was wondering how many States still have Adultery Law? would Adultery Law help the "other man and woman" behave better and stabilize marriage?

I also would like to know your opinions on Dot & Lynn Case?

Divorce lawyer Lee Rosen said the alienation of affection law makes getting a divorce a mess.

"There's often bad conduct. Adultery is not uncommon, but an alienation-of-affection case just polarizes everyone and devastates everything in its path including the children and both spouses," Rosen said.

Am I allowed to laugh? :) I don't know if we have a similar law in the UK, but this could work like any sodden insurance policy. Except, I imagine we can come up with much colourful and imaginative names for it than boring ole "Adultery Law"!

I imagine it would make many people think a bit more that just twice, before getting involved with a married person. Wouldn't it be great if the married partner also had to pay, on top of the divorce settlement?

Dear me, imagine the scenarios that some "business-minded" partners can come up with.

Beautiful young lady is coaxed into affair with Dot's husband by a friend of Dot's in the form of an actor.

Dot's husband has affair, Dot is in on it. Dot's husband "mistakenly" leaves Lynn's Victoria's Secret panties in his jacket pocket, Dot finds the pair, Dot sues, Dot gets $1 million, Dot shares $1 million with husband and both live happily ever after (separately or together).

Thank my lucky stars *yeah right!* my legal focus is only on financial crimes and fraud!

Wow...if people are suing over McDonald's extra hot coffee burning tongue (deep-pocket,slush fund), and there is a law on the books about adultery I guess more folks are gonna sue the floozy.

But here is where I get nervous...I have a married friend who is ONLY my friend....what is stopping wives from suing folks accusing them of instigating an "emotional affair" if hubby decides to split based on the advice and shoulder to cry on of said friend...yeah, meaning me! ..and can someone Please explain what an emotional affair really is?

You see I have an unhappily married man friend who is complaining about his mrs. to anyone within earshot.

I don't wanna get sued by his wife if he decides to bolt and says...I'd like to thank my friends for helping me get my head together to finally leave this miserable marriage...the first one on my list is my very good friend Miss Skittles who, without her understanding and a couple beers and smokes, my d-i-v-o-r-c-e would not be possible.

one million dollars? I don't even have one million dust mites underneath my bed.

Most of these 'alienation of affections' laws are quite old. Check your jurisdiction for them. I think most places either didn't have them or abolished them long ago.
