I need that drive I need a reason !!

Find your reason, find your drive. It isn't something that we can give you. You've got to find out what makes you want to become a doctor and think to yourself perhaps it isn't truly your choice to become one? What if you could help sick children in Africa or Asia once you become a doctor and make a real change? This is just a suggestion, but it's up to you to decide why you're going the path you're going.

The story you tells me goes a lot like my own, except that my father isn't a doctor, but an economist in the UN. He started off poor and worked his a@@ off to make a decent living, and now he expects all that from me. I know it's all normal, but sometimes I feel like his constant pressure is making me feel down on myself and is causing me to lose my motivation to accomplish.

You've got to remember, it's about you, not him; it's how you want to accomplish your life, and what you want to do with it.

This is actually a worry that I have as well. I'm from an upper middle class family and my parents while not coming from poverty stricken background still had to work their asses to get where they are. Like you, I worry (and have been told) as well that I do not have the drive.

I'm still figuring it out for myself but there's 3 things I can say to you:

1. Fearing that you don't have the drive and then fearing that you're going to fail is a good thing. I found that having this mindset is the thing that will get you off your ass.

2. You will find a reason why you have the talents that you have and you're going to find your purpose. Take your time, don't rush it. What are you passionate about? Once you find it, you'll know.

3. Given that our material needs are taken care care of, our purpose will more than likely be non-material (ie. we want to feel good about what we do rather than we want to make money from what we do).

I'm still trying to find that purpose...spending time observing people...how they live...I just need to feel a little pain to let it drive me...

Don't ask for pain. Just think how lucky you are, how many would kill to be in your spot, and let that drive you to not screw it up.

If you got it, I doubt you'd want it.

If you REALLY got it, that is.

Perhaps you are right, and you are a spoiled in a way.

Go to one of those outdoorsy bootcamp things?

Go live in a developing country for a month. Live the way they live and realise how lucky you are.

Do you need work experience in order to get into med school? Can you volunteer at say a children's ward or a nursery home to see if the medical field is really for you?
