Phateless
Not sure if this is in the right place, so Mods feel free to move it if you like. Someone close to me pointed out that I'm a very loyal person, sometimes to a fault. I stick with tough situations even when they are clearly not in my best interest, and I was never sure if it was fear, guilt, or what? I like the idea of loyalty and I think it comes into play with the other two. Jobs, relationships, living situations, etc... I just have a hard time coming to terms with putting myself before someone else and putting them in a difficult spot, even when I know consciously that I have nothing to feel guilty over. I just can't bear the thought of causing someone else pain. One of my buddies is always saying that people in general are more likely to take action to avoid pain than they are to seek pleasure. That piece of insight has really stuck with me. What are everyone else's thoughts on this? Edited November 5, 2009 by Phateless
Edward10
I think it depends on the person. Selfish people tend to seek repetitive pleasurable activities. Giving people might be more sensitive to pain, and therefore will do more to avoid it. I'm loyal to a fault as well. I learnt that just because I can take the pain, doesn't mean I should. Sometimes we assume everyone is as strong as we are, and it is such a disappointment when they are shown to be weaker.
