Belief in an afterlife

Recommended Posts

I hope there is an after life. This can't be "it"... Life on Earth as humans, then nothing. There has to be something else out there after we pass on.

Our energy goes 'somewhere' after we die. Where that is and what happens, guess I'll find out when my time comes.

This is the attitude I was alluding to earlier. We just can't cope with the idea of not existing.

I suspect you will be significantly underwhelmed. Our "energy" is only going to be reabsorbed back into the world. In fact it's probably the only efficient recycling process the world has ever seen.

Take some comfort in the fact that you will become, as Obi Wan famously once said, "more powerful than you could ever imagine."

Cheers,

D.

You're so right..

Or transformed somewhere else..Or transformed into another human.

I find the fact that there is probably no life after death (never been dead, so i can't say with certainty) comforting.

If you "live" for eternity, not only would it eventually become horribly boring, but there would be now joy in the "little" things like laughing at a stupid joke until your eyes water and sides hurt, or the smell of fresh coffee in the morning...

And no physical existence, so no visceral experiences.

In any scenario, if there is an afterlife, you eventually become horribly bored waiting for the eventual heat-death of the Universe and its eventual collapse into singularity.

great post.

It brings up a memory for me.

Years ago I suffered from depression. I remember someone at that time saying that when we die we maintain all of the feelings for people etc. that we had in this life. All our conciousness.

I just thought how awful that would be! an eternity of neurosis to endure!

The idea of living forever with our concious mind intact is surely a scary one.

i just had a thought...

When people we love die, its very difficult to accept that they are no-where. that no part of them remains. an afterlife belief gives a person the comfort of knowing that the person you love remains in some way, themselves.

I think that personally, i'd be much more suseptable to an afterlife belief for this reason, as opposed to for myself.
