Newguy1982
Ok, so I met a girl online and we have been out on two dates. She goes to school about 50min-1hr away from where I go to school, yet her permanent home is about 2.5 hrs away. Our first date I picked her up at her school address, and we had a great date. The second date she was home to see family, and I drove the 2.5 hrs to see her. I met some of her friends/family, and a few people were concerned about the distance. By concerned I just mean that they were quite interested in the time it took me to drive to see her and how many miles it was, etc. They weren't overtly negative. Anyway, I know I like her. I haven't been in a serious relationship in almost a year, however I've dated a few women in that time, and I know what it feels like to be "into" someone (or not!), and this feels like it's it. I literally just met this girl and yet I feel a really strong connection. We haven't crossed the physical threshold yet, but I feel like we are making a mental connection. However I feel like the most serious obstacle is the fact that there is some distance between us. The other problem is that she does not have a car, only I do. So that means I would be the one driving all the time. I don't mind driving, however the distance thing prevents us from being able to have coffee/dinner at a moments notice, or to have a weekend night out where all either of us have to worry about is walking home as opposed to keeping track of time, how much you drink, if you can stay the night, etc. School keeps me incredibly busy during the week, and honestly I almost think having some distance would keep me focused. If I could see this girl all the time my grades would probably start to deteriorate. Anyway, I have never done this before. Is 1 hr too much distance? What about 2.5 hrs? What the hell am I doing? Help.
Midnight Rider
At least you are only 2.5 Hrs away. Other people have LDR with partners in different states, or countries! So, in your case you still have the ability to get to her place. I know what you mean about the "moments notice thing" but hey, it's not the end of the world. I also have a gf who does not drive, and she lives a considerable drive away. It's a pain, but you don't have to see her every day and eventually if things get more serious you could re-locate closer to her (or she relocates) or you both get a place together. Anyways, be thankful you are in driving range as opposed to requiring a airliner to get there.
Rollercoasterr
Honey, if I can drive an hour to work everyday(and I do), this should be easy as pie. I'm not saying it isn't hard on you, because it is. I'm in school too, so I know how you struggle to make your love life and your schoolwork balance. But if I can go through work, school, my adoption papers(lovely nickname my co-workers gave my immigration process), and an LDR with a country border and 1000 miles separating us, then you can do it too!!! I just know it! :):bunny:
SoulSearch_CO
The guy I'm dating is 2.5 hours away from me. We keep in constant contact everyday by text and email. We get to see each other once a week. It's not that big of a deal. If it's a keeper (the relationship), then the distance won't matter. We've been dating 3.5 months, but the distance really does not matter. And you're right - it does help to keep one focused on what's going on in one's own life without having to constantly worry about the other person. It seems to keep things on an even keel and steady pace.
