Might also be your body type; I have wavered between being an 8 and 10 and the ONLY time I haven't had love handles was when I was an anorexic size 4 (which, with 38DDs, made me look like a frigg'n Barbie Doll!).

Now I just deal with it -- they are always going to be there...

Toning up won't remove the love handles, just provide more muscle under the layer of fat. As far as I know, there's no way to lose weight in one area of your body, so you'll have to not only exercise but also, start portion controlling and ensuring you're not eating empty calorie/fatty foods.

It sounds to me like you just want to tone up. I'd recommend yoga/pilates/yogalates. Lean muscle won't splodge out over jeans ;)

tone? lean muscle? you really drank the kool-aid.

OP, lose fat, lose the love handles...eventually.

As the above post says. Cardio and lots of it. I have read somewhere that we gain weight starting at our waist and work up. When we loose weight we loose weight starting with our face and working down. It seem logical. My stomach is the hardest area to loose fat.

Are you currently doing cardio & strength/lift/resistance? if not, I recommend 30 day shred from Jillian Michaels if you don't have your exercise routine yet. This has a great combination of cardio, strength, and abs.

After the 30 days, then do power yoga & pilates. If you feel ambitious (want to get some really firm abs instead of only flat) then go for kickboxing & crossfit.

I have them too and i'm a size 4. yuck.

Same here.

I'm echoing the cardio tune, too. A friend wants to gain more muscle, but cardio's slimming him down. I used to run a lot and that workout maintained my body type, but now that I don't make time to run, old friends (the love handles) are re-introducing themselves very, very slowly but surely. :o
