torranceshipman Posted February 26, 2010 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Christianity is just a religion, run by humans, and sometimes human pride, greed, weakness, and other negative things keep getting in the way (of course it does if it is run by humans - humans are fallible). But God is God! The two often bear absolutely no relation to eachother (in my mind). Bad people hide under a cloke of religion a lot, and it is sickening. Recently straight after the Haiti crisis I saw some christians immediately post sick insinuations that Haitians had bought this on themselves by following the wrong religion. What kind of a sicko do you have to be to say something like that? (Btw I know there are a lot of wonderful Christians and wonderful people of every religion too!). Wars are fought over religion and people die over it. Again...thats a bunch of stupid humans - that isn't God. You do NOT need to follow a formalized religion to believe in God. I don't follow any religion - never have - but I pray every day and think that God is someone/something extremely cool and uplifting in my life. Its a personal thing for me and I dont feel the need to have a set of rules and a bunch of people telling me what I should or shouldnt believe in order to pray or feel uplifted. And on a final note, I believe that if there is an ultimate good there must be an ultimate bad too, so you need to choose a side -good or bad, and try to do a lot of good stuff to counter the bad things out there. Sorry to hear you had such a horrible shock but just because there is evil out there, that doesnt mean there isnt incredible good too... Link to post Share on other sites
torranceshipman Posted February 26, 2010 Share Posted February 26, 2010 no i dont believe in god because of everything theres so much suffering in the world...he supposedly made us.. to be honest sometimes the human race is a disgrace where selfish, greedy... people kill.. theres children out there starving to death.if there is a god why make people like that.there are good people out there but if there is a god why continue with a world like this? A lot of the bad things that happen are also very preventable but what do each of us individually do to help? We do have the power to right a lot of these wrongs. To have that power is amazing. But when you see bad things, how often do you act decisively to help make a change? Honestly? Not judging you, as we all do this, but as a culture I think we often have the power to make incredible changes, yet we do nothing, so in some ways we are part of the problem. We just sit back, do nothing, and say, look how bad all this is...and I blame God. That's very lazy and arrogant of all of us. Link to post Share on other sites
Weird Posted March 17, 2010 Share Posted March 17, 2010 First off, it is silly to assume that God wouldn't exist because some person who says they are religious does something horrible like molest children. The same is true when looking at any religious people in general and assuming because they may be out there (ie bible thumpers that say everyone is going to hell) it means God couldn't exist. People created religion not God. For me, I really have no idea if God exists and nobody really does either. I think that something created everything but whether that is a personal god or not is something I do not know. I do tend to side on the belief that there is indeed a personal god though when I look at something I am recently dealing with which doesn't need to be in my life and ask why I am having to keep dealing with the feelings regarding it (thought the issue was concluded before but nope, keeps popping back up) I do wonder if that personal god exists and if so, if it gives a crap about how I may be feeling.
