What is the best way to say hello to a strange lady at a bar, mall, etc.?

Recommended Posts

Okay Girls,

A simple question:

Him: Guy is good looking, non-player, (doesn't that show up right away?), and by himself.

You: In a crowded place, ie: bar, shopping mall, outside event, whatever.

What is the best way, or what was ever said to you, to just say Hi! Oh Yeah...If you do answer this, answer it as if you were by yourself and then with friends.

Anyway I'm not shy at all, but it would help not to follow along in a traditional footstep!

well i am sure all chickies are different, but if you were at the mall, tell her you noticed her and ask if it would be ok to buy her some coffee, a coke, etc... then get to talkin

and NO... it is not obviouse if a dude is a player or not, some look the stereo typical part, but as a rule should act as if all women percieve you that way.

Me: (in a public place).

You: Excuse me, Hello my name is __________ and I noticed you "over there". (smile, extend a hand shake and ask my name) May I ask your name?

You: I'd really like to know if there is anyway that I can get to know you, coffee? soda?

If I say NO to each then you can say:

You: Well, can I give you my phone # in case you change your mind?

I tend to be cautious of strangers so I like when they introduce themselves first. I would't feel comfortable giving my # out but I would take his, also I would prefer to be asked to do something simple and during the day like going for coffee or lunch...never a drink or dinner as a 1st date.

As far as for the "player type" I don't think you can tell off the back most of the time but I have ran across some real losers who have it written all over their forehead.

Good luck

Have you tried, "Hello, strange lady"???

In all seriousness, what with the scary acts of violence one reads of, I would not expect lots of response when attempting to pick up strangers. Especially if you just sidle up behind one in a mall and murmur that you "would like to get to know her better".

If you must try, how about a nice smile and a little neutral chitchat, about crowds, holidays, traffic, weather, fashion trends, whatever the situation suggests. This would work if you're both waiting in line somewhere. If the chitchat goes well, then it will feel natural to say, "Let's continue this discussion over a Coke."

Hey Solemate,

Are you pickin' on me!! Ha! Ha! I like the "Hello strange lady" thing. I didn't pick the title of the thread, it came out that way because I forgot to give my question a title. It was supposed to be: "Way to say Hi".

Anyway, I know your joking! Thanks for the input, and Dyermaker's too, I have no prob in chit-chat I just didn't know (and because I respect a girl's privacy) if there was a nice way to say: " I'm interested in you"

Okay then...

go to a bookstore, and comment on whatever book the woman is reading, as though you can't help yourself.

don't make any comments about her or her appearance. an objective topic keeps her off the spot and opens more avenues for discussion.

HAHA you know what's the best tip that even i use on myself almost all the time?

TALK TO THEM AS IF YOU ALREADY KNEW THEM, OR AS IF THEY ARE YOUR FRIEND.

works wonders, ive had ppl open up to me immediately, and chat to me AS IF i were already their friend. im pretty attractive, so that benefited me. i think the level of attractiveness someone is also a major importance of how friendly someone may or may not be to you during your initial ice breaker.

usually i say "hey how's it going? then i proceed from there. and ask something pertaining to them, after a good chat i ask for their name and i tell them mine, heck at the end of the chat we exchange #'s, but we end up not calling each other anyway. it's worked 90% of the time for me. if the opposite person has no interest in getting to know you, then well there's nothing you can do, it's happened to me before...

so yea even if someone opened up to you or me, and i had no interest in getting to know them, i probably wouldnt be that friendly the first time around.

2 of the easiest way to pick up on the dance floor....

1) act gay then dance sleezy on them, girls loose all sence of whats ethical and degrading if its a gay guy.

2) the bestest ever way:

1. Get ya mate to lightly push you into a girl/group of girls

2. Say sorry about that, its a bit crowded in here

3. Ya mate leaves you alone on the dance floor next to her while he goes to get a drink

4. Wait a few seconds, let her see ya by yaself and a looking a bit lost

5. Then say to her; scuse me, my mates just gone to grab a drink, do ya mind if i dance with yas instead of looking like an idiot by myself?

6. she says sure cos shes a sucker, due to the fact she's female

7. introduce yaself, shake her hand, strike up the conversation

8. ya mate gets back with a drink, you introduce him and away yas all go.

This isnt garranteed to get you the girl you want, usually the more out going girl in the group is the most chatty to ya making it difficult to talk to the 1 you want other girls are trying to talk to you.

I think your best approach is to talk to her about something that's happening around you -- a joke about something in your line of sight or even a comment about the crowds or weather (yes, banal, but banal can be ok, especially when you are approaching a total stranger). I don't think you need to say something directly about her, i.e., "I'd like to get to know you." I think this can be off-putting, whereas you can convey this really easily by your facial expression and body language (and the fact that you are talking to her in the first place). I agree with the advice to follow up with a coffee or snack there at the mall rather than asking for a formal date.

Have fun!

That's cool advice. Where I "choke-up" is the "Wanna get together etc." No problem in talking, just kinda of a

scare-de-cat when it comes to that.

I do fine, its the girls I DIDN"T talk to that I need to do this with!

Ok, so after you have your coffee or whatever, say something to the effect of "This was fun. Would you like to get together sometime?" And if she says yes, ask for her #. Keep it short and keep it light. And really, have fun!

If you see someone you like at a mall, just sneak up behind her grab her shoulders really hard & scream in her ear.

Now that's an ice breaker :D

Hmmm. Sounds like it could lead to being a ball-breaker!

(I'd advise caution on this one but maybe I've just been out of the dating scene for too long!)

mjk,

I have a few suggestions, but I'm not speaking from experience, because basically, this never happens to me but I'll tell you what might work.

If I am by myself, for me, saying anything that even remotely puts me on the spot like 'would you like to go for a coffee' (usually i'm rushing around and i either don't have time or don't have the money) or 'i like your hair' would not go over well and make me feel uncomfortable. I like the idea of commenting on the book she is browsing at the bookstore, or the trashy magazine (if she's looking at the front page - don't be too invasive) and comment on a headline in some humourous way. I think using humour goes a long way to breaking the ice.

If I am with friends, well....when does a guy approach a girl with her girlfriend(s)? I'd automatically think (if he did it poorly) 'this guy is a dork' or (if he was goodlooking and did it creatively -- I like the dancefloor suggestion from cliche_boy! I am a sucker/pushover for a hardluck case!) 'this guy has balls to come over here'. It shows confidence. That's always attractive.

I agree with TattooMyToe that women just basically consider all 'strange men' to be players if they make it obvious that they are approaching them.

#1 Tip - Be as casual as possible! Get into a good conversation but let her make the phone number 'move'. If she doesn' t, but it seems like there is some real chemistry there, then offer her yours. :D

Thank god I'm not a cat, why? 'cause I'd be dead now for sure!

juicy? not sure what you meant by " this never happens to me".

Would one think that:

1. you are married- still men would want to say hi!

2. you don't get out much- kinda doubt that

3. the picture you have posted is your cutest girlfriend, not you

4. none of my business!

I always wondered what the phrase meant: " A picture tells a thousand words" Now I think I know

Hard luck case? Not me, not yet anyway.

See ya...

what?

put the word "quote" (without the quotation marks) inside square brackets [like this]. Then type or cut and paste whatever you want to quote. When you're done, put "/quote" inside another set of brackets. If you just want to quote what someone in the thread said, just click on the "quote" button in the bottom right corner of their post.

You can also use the brackets for other codes:

b - bold face

i - italic

red - red type

blue - blue type

etc.

Just put the first command on its own inside the brackets, type your text, then end the command by putting a slash (/) in front of it and placing both in brackets again.

How about just bounding into view, and shouting, "BEHOLD!" and standing there like Michael Flatley after an intense dance routine?

omg we have a British Army Base near by...... and what you just explained here cliche_boy is what 90 % of all the british soldiers do when Ive ever gone to that bar.... which is hardly because of this exact stuff :

Or, just highlight the text, hit the 'quote' box above your reply box, and the forum will parse it for you. Sometimes both ends of the bold quote don't work but other than that, it's quicker.

Hey There Juicy,

Thanks for the kind reply. I'll try my best here. First off I'm replying for two reasons,

1. to ask more questions

2. to tell your husband what a lucky guy he is!!!!

Imao, that was great!

What does Imao mean?

PHP and MySQL web Development - Luke Welling

I went to the link, its not there

IT never happens. Guys don't approach me.

Your guy must be like Hulk Hogan or something, although I know its hard to "cold-call" on someone, especially a pretty girl! Your wedding ring is probably huge and maybe its the flash from that? Or... guys in Calgary are blind as bats!

Yup, I'm married, but no, they don't say hi

I know when I met someone (girl) I'm usually looking her in the eyes, not her breasts or ring finger! I'm probably real lame in that area. But usually I'm talking just to say hi and chat. You find out soon enough if she wants to talk more or is married etc.

Nope, you were right.

Maybe its the weather in Calgary? Or you are just real busy!

Hey, it IS me!!

Thank god for beautiful girls like you!

Well, ya, maybe that too

Thanks I needed that!

You do? Then explain what thousand words you would use for my avatar

Okay...here goes. Just remember I DO respect you and your husband.

" The mystery continues as pictures flash back and forth bringing with them a feel of understanding, teasing, and playfulness...all from the touch of a finger...laugh she does as I stumble along, writing the words my hands can't type as fast as my mind.

Rain beats hard on the roof as one struggles to make good on a dare...heart beats quicken as what was a

fleeting glimpse of hope is now dashed to the ground like rain...that pours...quickly and hard.

Fun she is, so far away,

nice to all, this very day.

A fool I am for writing this?

not at all I feel a bliss...

Happy to meet the dare she gave,

she did well...my heart she saved.

Okay, How's that? Oh man...

You said describe your avatar! All right here goes:

"A picture worth a thousand words...

means little to those,

who have not heard my spoken voice"

Where do you work? We should go for coffee sometime...

Uh, Oh, Didn't you say you were married? I love coffee, especially in the early am, but I don't think I'd like your guy comin' after me!

XXX-XXXX

Damn...does anybody know how to translate Calgary? HELP!!!!

"Sometimes the sound of goodbye is louder than any drum beat"

Or: " Sometimes the beat of a heart is louder than any drum"
