Be honest, would it bother you if a guy's profession was...

Was just on my lovely dating site Plenty of Sh*T. Oops I mean Plenty of Fish.:) This might sound bad, but I'm curious what other people think of this. Would it bother you if a man was going into Nursing or going to become a Nurse as his profession? I know it's better than no career or job at all, but is it bad I would hesitant to date a man who wanted to do this.

The reason I'm asking is, I just got a message from a guy who is studying Nursing, and it made me realize it's kind of a turn off to me. It just seems odd. What about you?

Yeah, superficial or not it would turn me off.

I'm sure it is superficial, but it just seems weird to me. Of all jobs, why a nurse. There are other jobs to help people.

I can't seem to be able to edit.

I wanted to add that, even though it is a bit of a turn off, I'm not sure if I'd not date someone because of it.

I've dated two male nurses -- one specialized in O.R. procedures and made six figures.

No way would I discriminate!

Nope. It wouldn't bother me in the least. To be a good nurse, you need serious dedication and the desire to help your fellow man. I have nothing but respect for any person who is or wants to be a nurse.

i bet you anything it is because he is a male nurse.

i hate these types of things, especially when they come from women. it's so hypocritical, truly.

Probably because there are way more women nurses than male, and it just seems like a very feminine job to me.

If not for nurses, many doctors would be lost. The reams and reams of procedures, medication, stress-handling and empathy, necessary to do this almost thankless job, is amazing. It takes some serious smarts and dedication.

Some folks in this thread need to do some googling as they don't understand that nurses of today are nothing like nurses in the past. Healthcare has become a dynamic, technologically challenging field, with just as many specialties and levels of accomplishment in nursing as doctors have.

A "businessman" can be a guy running a craps game in the street, or Donald Trump. Likewise, a "nurse" can be someone who just takes blood samples or someone with more expertise than a doctor in a given field, very broad field with a misleading name.

All the male nurses I know make well into six figures. Some doctors I know don't.

Is this at an actual hospital, or something non-medical related?

In fact.. I have never seen a male nurse who looked 'feminine'.. they were all 'well built'... manly.. and hot..

I also had a few guy friends who were paramedics.. in fact one of my MM is a paramedic (part time, he has another full-time job)... and he's perfect...

Some of you go so far as to say it wouldn't bother you in the least, or Turns you on. That's very hard to believe. Logically we know nothing is wrong with it, but you can seriously tell me you would date a male nurse, and think nothing of it? You would be fine telling your friends and family what he does for a living, and not feel kind of funny about it?

What about men? What do you think of other males doing this profession? Nothing strange about it? I mean a Doctor, ok, but Nurse not so much. It just doesn't seem too masculine. Wow, I must be one in a million to think this. :lmao:

No, because realistically, with the recession or the way things are going the health field is pretty much the most demanding field that's hiring these days.

I know people that left jobs that they were laid off from, and never bothered going back into that field again, and changed to the healthcare, soley out of survival.

most men who go into nursing do so because it will increase their earning potential a lot from whatever they were doing before

i think some fields in nursing are effeminate though depending.

anything with obstetrics, pediatrics and neo-natal is pretty much a woman's world

I can honestly say that it wouldn't have bothered me when I was single. If anything, I would be proud to be with a guy who's dedicated and intense about his profession.
