Author HeyThere
There are so many different reasons for cosmetic enhancements, in my opinion some valid and some not. A previous poster mentioned a friend that had reconstructive surgery on her jaw, for medical reasons. I don’t even question that type of surgery. My niece has a girlfriend who is 21 or 22; she lost about 80lbs and then had breast reduction surgery. Those two changes in her life are visually dramatic, and her self confidence has been boosted greatly. To me that makes perfect sense. Or allina who is thinking about possible breast (reduction) surgery after some point in her life also has sound logic attached. When I see people in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s having elective surgery and I keep referring back to Sharon Stone – I don’t get it, because it seems so superficial and vain. It has been reported that Sharon Stone has had breast augmentation, a nose job and face lift and at 51, as I said I didn’t recognize her. Google her (@ sharon stone kennedy center – images) and judge for yourself. My wife has a colleague (mid seventies) in sales, who just had a face lift. The doctor did a nice job but, it seems she is trying to compete with women 20 to 35 years younger and to me I’m thinking whatever floats your boat. And hair plug vs a shaved head – shaved head wins hands down. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Card carrying member of CRAP – Citizens Resisting Acronym Proliferation
shadowplay
I don't see the harm in plastic surgery if it dramatically improves somebody's appearance and boosts his/her confidence. Not everyone is born attractive, and being unattractive in our society can put somebody at a huge disadvantage. I think it makes most sense for a young person who has a particular feature or two that really bothers them and can be fairly easily fixed. With aging it's a losing battle. shadowplay
what does anyone think of hair plugs v shaved head? Depends on how good the hair plugs look. If they're really convincing (in that I can't tell the difference), I'd prefer that on a guy over a shaved head. But if they look fake or like doll's hair, then no way. LucreziaBorgia
Nose jobs are one thing. Jocelyn Wildenstein is another.
sb129
Views on said topic before I had a baby: No, never. Views now since I have had a baby: Yes, quite probably. In fact I will seriously consider it after I have had Wonderbaby II. My problem is my stomach- its never been my best feature and now I can't imagine any amount of diet or exercise completely eliminating the "pouch" that has arrived there. I wouldn't do it so I could wear a bikini or to please my husband- I would do it so I could look at it and like what I saw, for the same reason I wear nice clothes and makeup and get my hair done. I also follow a healthy diet and exercise regime, and while I know its good for me on the inside, I would be lying if I said that was the only reason I did it- its also to look good on the outside. Peitho
With all the money wasted by their wives trying to look younger in vain they could have bought an actual younger woman Am I the only one who finds this offensive?
SummerLady
I watched the Kennedy Center Honors last night with Sharon Stone assisting in a tribute to Robert De Niro. I didn’t recognize her with her plastic surgery - face lift… It seems so sad that some/many in the entertainment industry feel the need for these “enhancements”. As a consumer I get so turned off with the talking heads who get these augmentations that I turn off the TV or don’t go to a movie if I know these type of people are in them. Also, Sharon Stone is 51ish and she seems young to have that done. I understand that Hollywood is not the real world, and many of these people are not normal – whatever normal is. How do others feel about plastic surgery and the media and/or plastic surgery in general? I think anything in moderation is fine. Your examples are extreme, those people def went overboard not good examples. I know people that got stuff done and look fine. I would love to get a boob job but I am way chicken, hate pain:) Plus i don't want boobs up to my neck, saw many bad boob jobs...For some it works well........Maybe when I am 50 I will freak and be like ahh need face lift who knows, I will let you know when I get there.......
