I'm going through a very difficult time in my life and am not taking care of myself very well. I get up and have coffee and that's about it until dinner time. Then the wine comes out. Then I don't eat dinner but open up junk food instead. I am not eating much because I am so stressed out and sad and food just seems to get caught in my throat. Anyone else go through this horrible cycle of not eating and then just eating junk to fill your stomach?

I lost 30 lbs in 30 days after my STBXW laid the D-day speech on me. Now down about 35 lbs but I feel great now. During the first 30 dyas I decided when I could eat or the few times I was hungry I would eat right - i.e., protein, whole grains, dairy, good carbs, ... instead of JUNK. This helped me feel ok physically through this time. (didn't help me mentally - but I knew physically I had to eat something and when I did it had to be good.)

I didn't have any alcohol in the hose during this time so I wouldn't just hit the bottle. Not sure if any of this helps - I don't have any other suggestions Ann ... But if you can do what I did you will FORCE yourself to change your habits - I didn't want to do the "smart" thing but I made myslef do it. I felt weak during this period but looking back I was actually quite strong all while allowing myself to go thru the separation stages (denial, sadness, anger, ...)

Take Care - Let us know how you're coping, ok?

PEACE!

Try having a banana with your coffee. Or some toast, if you can't handle 2 pieces, just have one with peanut butter or jam (or PB'n'J)..

Eat fruit and smaller snacks during the day - It'll help build your appetite back up.

Buy nuts (walnuts, almonds) and eat a handful or two in the afternoon.. Even afew pieces of cheese, cut up with apple is a nice snack and will give you good energy.

Make sure to have salad with dinner, and also take multivitmans, vitamin C, vitamin D.

Stress can do awful things to our bodies, and not eating right will eventually catch up to you..This is why eating smaller meals throughout the day will make you feel better.

Thank you. I just came from our mediator. Then we sat outside and talked for an hour. I hadn't eaten a thing (nerves) and was so hungry I thought i was going to pass out. Stopped for a bagel on the way home loaded with cream cheese. I am just throwing things in my mouth to fill up. Not good.

Thanks for your concern and I will take your advice.

Thank you. You're so right and I am going to try all this. Started taking a multi vitamin today. It is amazing what stress can do to us.

You're Welcome. It's the least I can do after chastising you so much on your other post many weeks ago. I'm over that...

Just think about taking care of ANN, ok? (Actually a bagel with cream cheese does not sound too bad - could be way worse! LOL)

When you say "WE" sat outside I assume you mean you and your H? or was it with the mediator? Just curious? If was with the H then maybe you should limit contact like this with him for a bit - for the better of you and for him as well - I've been there Ann. Just a thought.

(Might be wrong forum for this question, huh? - no response needed!) :o

Best Wishes!!!

Start doing things that make you happy.

Even if you're not hungry, at try to eat a sandwich.

Junk food are okay if you have the metabolism for it, but if you're eating it under stress, it will definitely catch up to in terms of weight gain.

Whenever I hit a rough patch in life, I develop a distaste for food.

I remember after my divorce going for days without eating- just existing on coffee and cigarettes.

The last rough period I went through, I turned to alcohol to soothe my nerves and dull the pain. It became an unhealthy addiction for me. I would just come home from work and crack a beer and drink until bedtime.

When you're in a state like this, you can't get anything accomplished in life. Unhealthy patterns stagnate you in all aspects of your life. I couldn't make a move to find a better job, I was too messy to be in a relationship, and I was so embarrassed of my situation, I cut myself off from my friends.

If you want to turn things around, the best decision you can make is to be the healthiest "you" that you can be. I'd start by cutting off the alcohol - it's best to do that before it becomes an addiction.

I am not a smoker - I used to be - I am one of those rare people that can smoke and smoke and then stop for months at a time. Never was a habit to me. But when I am stressed and sad - they help. I find myself outside in my backyard smoking which disgusts me. I have stopped that. I have the occasional glass of wine at night but haven't really turned to drinking much lately as it typically only makes me feel worse.

I went out to whole foods yesterday and stocked up on vitamins to replace what I am not getting. I even spoke to someone who works there who recommended some B-complex vitamins that claim can help with stress. So I am taking those. I also got veggies and fruit so that when I DO eat, at least it won't be the hostess cupcakes that are in the cabinet (those are for the kids).

Taking better care of myself has made me feel more in control at a time in my life where I feel very out of control. Smoking and drinking and starving myself only made me feel worse. So I am trying to work on all that.

You have the answer to your question right here. Now all you need is a plan on how to get there. You can do it by making little changes each day. Add a healthy choice food to your diet each day, get some excercise.. and cut down on the wine. Little steps.:)
