how to consume 3300 calories a day?

I am a college student so money is hard to come by and so is food at times, but how can i eat 3300 calories a day, im trying to gain weight and I calculated that as the amount of calories I need to eat. Can someone give me a basic plan or idea of how and what to eat

I went from 130 to 165 in four months. The key to my sucess was carbs, carbs,carbs. I went to see a dr. cause I couldn't gain weight. He got me pounding down 4000 calories a day. But you absolutely MUST hit weight room or you will just get fat. Also google "Dr. David Reuben's Quick Weight Gain Program"

yeah you can't just eat extra food and expect to gain weight in all the right places. Make sure you are going to the gym, work out hard, and eat plenty of protein and and brown rice or something and you should gain weight. ask for the advice of in shape guys at the gym, they might be able to give you some advice.

college athletes do it all the time. An M.D had me on a weight gain diet when I was his age. I was ramming 4000 cal. a day .Why should he spend the best years of his life not happy with his appearance when it's easy to correct?

It doesnt need to be corrected, the weight will come on naturally as he gets older

Where are you now, and where are you trying to get to? And why? Are you working with anyone, or is this just a personal plan? I'm not taking exception to it or judging it; I just want to understand what is motivating you and whether you have set a sensible goal for a healthy reason...

i agree but he's young, and he wants to look better NOW! So did i. i had the same problem when i was his age. why should he waste the best years of his life unhappy w/ his body image when he doesnt have to?

dude you dont need any weight gain shakes. go see a sports medicine doc. that's what i did. tell him you'd like to put on weight. he'll help you. carbs + weights= attractive body believe me, there are doctors & trainers @ every university who know how to help athletes pack on the muscle

He hasn't said what he believes his "problem" to be yet, he's only said he wants to gain weight. He didn't say it's about body image, he didn't say he wants to "look better." You are only assuming these because of your experience. It may well be, but he hasn't explained yet (in this thread, at least...)

well if it's not about "body image" & "looking better" , why would he be concerned about gaining weight? He would obviously like to put on a few pounds so he feels better about himself. what's wrong w/ that?

I didn't say there's anything wrong with that, I'm just checking to get more information before I jump to the conclusions that you have. You're probably right - I just want to be sure. Maybe he's been sick for a long time and now he's trying to bounce back. Maybe he has unexplained weight loss that should be checked out. ALL WE KNOW is he is asking how to gain. I would just like to know more.

I hope so... And I still grant that you're probably right - it likely is just that simple. Hell, I've been working out at the gym and pounding protein for the last year or so, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Stayed level on the weight but toned up a bit...

 

But I'm always a fan of understanding not just someone's objective goal (I wanna gain weight), but also their motivations, just in case things are not as obvious as they may seem...

im not unhappy with the way i look, ive always been a fit guy 6 six pack, nice definetion etc. now i just want to add some weight. i can eat whatever i want but i never gain weight, also i get stronger but not really bigger when i lift. i lift weights and play bball alot, im not a lazy person looking to get fat only by eating alot of food. i will probably drink a protein shake but i dont like harsh supplements. i just wanted some ideas on how to consume that many calories because it seems hard to eat that much in a day

Cans of tuna are very cheap. So is bread and so are eggs. They're all very healthy too.

Eat plenty of those, lift a lot of weights with (importantly!!) the correct technique and you will gain weight in no time.

 

Also maintain some sort of cardio, it's important too!

Where did you hear that?

The weight people gain as they get older isn't the sort of wieght the OP wants.

If you're already fit ( muscle wise) you're going to have to pack on the carbs and fats. That way when you do weight train, your body won't burn them off too fast.

Basically if you're working out too much, you're burning alot of calories. That means you're going to have to eat around 500 calories per meal for a total of 6 meals. Or reduce that down to 3 meals of 1000 calories each.

 

Basically the only thing you can do is eat.

 

You actually do sound genetically predisposed to a higher metabolism. But if you wait out a couple of years, or eat junk food all the time, you're going to gain later on.

Carb up to around 60% of carbs and reduce your protein intake to around 30 or 45%.

 

You want to make your body be unable to burn off all the excess carbs, which will eventually be turned to fat. Then get to the gym and start on heavy weights. You want to break down muscles to build bigger muscles ( which in turn will add weight to your frame because muscles weigh more).

I assume the guy wants to put on muscle so I don't think it's a good idea to reduce his protein intake. He should eat all the protein he can as that is what builds muscles.

If he overloads on carbs, they will either turn into fat in the long run, or burn off during weight training. Either way, the only way to build muscle is to a large amount of carbs and protein in the diet.

 

 

And the whole weight training building muscle thing is misunderstood. When you lift heavy weights, you're not building muscles, you're merely breaking down muscle fiber. It's only when you use protein to rebuild your body, that the protein rebuilds those muscle fibers and make them bigger.

 

That's why you have to lift heavier weight, but also take plenty of protein to repair those muscles.

 

PS. I wasn't asking him to minimize protein intake, but to take a day out of every week to carb up. If you do a clear research in the bodybuilding forum, most bodybuilders cardio and weight train on weekdays but load up on carbs on sunday to replenish glycogen stores.

Also, I'm not sure this guy actually wants to be a bodybuilder. I've read some of those forums before and if it's a case of a skinny guy simply wanting to put on some bulk, most of what is discussed in those message boards is irrelevant to him.

It's not even about the OP wanting to become a bodybuilder. But the methods of what most bodybuilders abide by has worked, it's just that they put in more time and dedication in perfecting their work. He doesn't need to become Arnold to look amazing, but he can just take what the tried and true methods and apply them to his goals.

You and I have the opposite problems. I put on muscle and unfortunately gain weight really easily. But either way the formula is the same. As lino said...eat more and lift more.

 

I would try to get a good amount of protein in. For exact ratios I would consult a sports nutritionist. However if funds are an issue you could always shoot for about a gram of protein per pound of your body. So if you weigh 150 eat 150 grams of protein. Try to eat clean. It will be hard to get all those calories and make them all count, but try to eat mostly lean protein, veggies, and whole grains. When I was bodybuilding I ate a lot of tuna, chicken breast, red potatoes, oatmeal, brown rice, eggs, milk, whey protein and tons of veggies. These kinds of things I could get for pretty cheap in bulk.

 

As for exercise...lift, lift, lift. I would start with a 5x5 lifting program. This should help you put on some weight. There are many variations of the program out there...here is some to get you started http://www.bodybuilding.co/fun/bbinfo.php?page=5x5Training

 

I would limit your cardio, get a lot of sleep, and drink tons of water.
