yes Posted December 29, 2003 Share Posted December 29, 2003 instead of making it a pure lose-weight thing, why not include gain-weight (my goal!), or better yet make it all about staying healthy - i.e. good nutrition, regular exercise, plenty of water, and not too much stress. we could have everybody provide honest updates (in % is a good idea!) every X while. i know that'd motivate me allright! -yes Link to post Share on other sites

Due to my job, I walk a minimum of 10 miles a day and climb ALOT of ladders. I can eat anything I want to.... anytime I want to....and never gain weight. It's the first time in my life I could ever make that statement. I wish I would've exercised when I was younger instead of starving myself all the time. I'm proud of ALL of you!!! Arabess Posted December 30, 2003 Share Posted December 30, 2003 Yes, I'm in charge of the pier for the USS Kennedy. I walk and climb endlessly all day long....10-12 hours a day. I end up eating at the galley on base alot. My children live close by and usually come to eat meals with me. The galley is very structured for 'well balanced eating'. Lots of fruit and veggies. I also drink alot of water during the day. During the summer when it was SO HOT....I would easily drink 3 gallons...if not more. I LOVE my peanut M&M's though and rarely don't have a pack in my pocket!!!! Link to post Share on other sites

jenny Posted January 2, 2004 Share Posted January 2, 2004 ok: let's begin. i don't care if i'm the only one doing this; it's soo helpful to have to write it out; but please do join in! goal: from 129 to 110 in six months from 22% to 15% in six months jan 1, 03: - 10 minute rowing warmup - Day 1 of advanced general conditioning: chest: 3 reps of 12 shoulders: 3 reps of 10 arms: 6 reps of 10 legs: press 3 reps of 12 (wussed out on rest :S) total: 47 minutes. -walk outside: 20 minutes food: egg white omelet. chicken wrap, no condiments. two huge glasses of skim milk and six of water. three mandarin oranges. about 11 sauteed mushrooms. -mistake: 3 french truffles, not even that tasty it's still early here, so my next challenge will be to avoid snacking off all the poker appiez and popcorn! Author Errol Posted January 2, 2004 Author Share Posted January 2, 2004 Smoked last cigarette & put it out at 12:00am on the dot 1/1/04 24 oz of water at 12:05 on 1/1/04 Threw out the cake, cheesecake, eggnog, chips/dips, pizza etc. (there was a ton left too -- what a waste$$) 1/1/04 Ate cereal with skim milk and no sugar for breakfast on 1/1/04 Drank lots of water, ate healthy 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with light margarine for breakfast on 1/2/04 Ate salad and hard boiled egg for lunch 1/2/04 Chewed fingernails, pencils, etc. after lunch because I'm really craving a smoke. Came to LS to bitch and whine and take out my frustrations because if I say anything to my boss I might get fired! Hopefully LS'rs will understand that I'm going through nicotine with-drawl and that I'm not mad at anyone - I'm just mad in general and apt to sound like a real SOB. Ate a Slim fast bar (have taken in less than 800 calories today) Drank more water First goal is to lose 40 pounds by June 15. Focus on the weight loss - not the smoking. I just drank ANOTHER bottle of water, but it didn't help. I've got a whole pack of gum in my mouth and I'm coming up on my usual smoke time -- get in the car and light up for the drive home. I'm already feeling it and would almost rather stay at work all night then get in the car without a cigarette! I havn't had any junk food -- well, not much anyway, since New Years (Oh the food we threw out was dancing through my dreams last night and all of it had wide white candles with no flame -- just burning embers and smoke!) I have managed to lose 3 kgs by jogging 4 months ago but now it is all back as I have ceased jogging due to the increasing cold weather. I have reduced what I'm eating (volume and caloric/carbohydrates) and I'm drinking more water. I began doing some stretching exercises and while watching TV I now lift weights and do some upper arm exercises (my arms still ache but not as bad as when I first started 5 days ago) In 5 days I have lost 6 pounds -- granted its probably almost all water -- but pounds is pounds and at least I know I'm losing something! I always start out with a bang whenever I put my mind to losing weight and then it tapers off after the first couple of weeks. I'm not going to weigh again for a couple of weeks. Just coming here and being able to review my own words and to see what others are doing too and comparing and encouraging is great. Errol -- I hope you didn't have a cigarette! If you did backslide - drink even more water and then drink some skim milk and then drink some more water -- right before you go to bed. Do this anytime you backslide. If you are up all night peeing then you might think twice about smoking -- you'll soon find that sleep deprivation is worse than cigarette cravings! Hey, it worked for me! I have 36 lbs I need to lose and 46lbs I want to lose. That sucks especially since I have been having acute back aches and just want to lay down and I also have a desk job.
