cogent_love
For anyone out there who's gotten one - does it really heal in 6 months? I'm coming up on the 6th month mark and it still gets tender and starts healing into the skin. Does it usually take longer than 6?
Trimmer
Did you get the kind that goes through a little fold of skin at your navel, or the one that goes in at the navel and comes out at the small of your back? That makes a difference...

I'm coming up on the 6th month mark and it still gets tender and starts healing into the skin. Does it usually take longer than 6? 6 months? I got mine done years ago. I remember I had a holiday 3 months later, and it was completely healed by then. What aftercare routine did you use after the piercing, and how long did you keep it up for? TaraMaiden
Mine took over a year to absolutely completely clear up. If I catch my piercing in my clothing, it flares up a little, but a drop of Lavender essential oil clears it up in no time. A friend of mine took out her belly-button piercing one morning, and by the afternoon, her hole had closed up. She had to wait for it to heal completely to have it re-pierced, and then in a different place, because of scarring....
Taramere
Mine still bleeds like a stigmata but I never fail to pick up youngbloods when I dance around in my crop-top I can picture you surrounded by Village People lookalikes as you gyrate. A little belly blood wouldn't be a dealbreaker for those horny studs, if their hearts are set on whipping your man-butt into a daisy chain. You're just an object, in their eyes. A friend of mine took out her belly-button piercing one morning, and by the afternoon, her hole had closed up. This is exactly the sort of thing I worry about happening. cogent love....bathe your navel twice each day, for ten minutes at a time, in warm, salted water. Use an egg cup. If it doesn't work, come back to us and we'll send Jake Barnes over to lick off the encrusted blood. Saliva contains some important antiseptic properties.

TaraMaiden
Not guilty! belly-button piercings are the absolute worst for healing and closing up if you take the piercing out. I personally would also advise against tongue piercings because I've known too many ladies have a bad after-effect, infection-wise. one girl had her tongue swell so much, she could hardly breathe, and it caused a lot of unnecessary suffering, discomfort and pain.... Conversely, my ears are fine, and my daughters' nose piercing and lip piercing are just fine, too.....

It hurt, it was expensive, and there would be a scar. It's staying in I was just curious. I haven't been washing it 3x a day like I am supposed to... for a while. So I should probably do that.... sedgwick
As a former piercer, I can attest that the best thing to do is sea salt water soaks -- 1/8 tsp sea salt to 1/2 cup hot water. Soak 10 min/day. If a new(ish) piercing gets irritated, go back to salt water soaks until it clears up.
Lauriebell82
It heals faster if you use salt water and wash it really well in the shower with anti-bacterial soap. It will close up real fast if you take it out so don't do that unless it is infected or your body has rejected it! I had to take mine out about 6 months ago after having it pierced for over 6 years. I put in a new belly button ring and my body rejected it because the holes started getting closer. It still hasn't completely closed up, probably because I had it pierced for so long. I don't know if I will ever get it re-pierced or not.. Watch out for that though, take good care of it and watch what kind of ring you put in. Make sure it's not a cheapo one! Enema
Anyone know anything about nip piercings? I had both of mine done with bars about 3 months ago. I clean / slide the bars back and forth every time I shower - is this something I'll have to do forever? If I don't, they sorta, stick.

Also you can find articles on the internet about that. Also you ask the person who pierced you about a cleaning regimen.
