Exercising in the house.

Hey, this year i am going to get really fit as i have been soooo lazy these past few months. I am low on confidence so i would rather not do any outdoor exercise until i started to look fitter and more muscley. what kind of exercises are good for losing weight on ur stomach around your belly button. i am also going to start a steady diet (non of these crash diet things). losing the weight quickly isnt nessassary so what exercises should i be doing. By the way, i dont yet have a bike or treadmill, so what else burns fat?

Thanks for ur help.

Cardio is best for burning fat. Its kind of hard to run around the house, so you are going to have to improvise. Try jump rope (like boxers), or buy a punching bag. Not only does it help with your ability to kick ass, it is a great workout. Then mix it in with strength training (push ups, crunches if you would rather not go to a gym). Squats strengthen your lower body but some men feel weird doing them. Make sure you eat enough though. You actually need more calories when you excersize, not less.

exactly......you need to do any type of caRDIOvascular activity. Walking, running, riding a bike are examples...You cannot "target" where the fat loss will come from, as in the faulty logic that doing crunches will help you lose fat around your stomach. This is not true.

Yeah but those videos kind of bug with a bunch of extremely fit people moving around like nothing. Then they keep repeating "breathe now. make sure and breathe. come on you can do it. its easy. look at me. giggle".

Its like you want to scream "shut up already!".

But crunches will help with your over all stregth. Like the people from pilates say "the abs are the power house of the body".

Hey, living where I do, I cease to exercise outside even at night by June (it's too hot and humid).....there is someone I've been exercising with for 10 years and along with a healthy way of eating (try not to say diet)...I've stayed in shape.

It's called Gilad: Bodies in Motion. You can find him on The Health Channel and some sports channels plus his site (dang I can't find it but search Gilad and you'll find his site)....I tape his exercises then just work out to my own tape. He does about 15 minutes of cardio and stretches, then he does a few minutes of toning and then a few abdominal. It works!! I try to work in at least 3 days...skip a day, like Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. If you really want an extra boost do his cardios every day of the week or at least 5 days a week. It's fairly low impact but they truly work!

You'll want to at least purchase 5lb of hand weights and 5lb for each leg of leg weights.....Just 30 minutes of your day and you'll get a great workout!! :D

You can always try a Richard Simmons exercise tape! All sizes of folks there!

don't forget - exercise tapes are edited together -- they don't do the whole tape at one time either!

No need to spend money on videos if you have basic cable and a VCR (or TIVO/DVR). There are tons of cardio-workout shows on various channels, with lots of variety. I tape a yoga show on the Oxygen Network that comes on a 5 AM CST daily, and do it 3-4 times a week. I know ESPN2 has a Bodyshaping program that comes on daily as well.

I found a video tape we had in our house, and have followed it once or twice now. It gets me into a sweat and i find it fun (not tiresome) im planning to do it 5+ times a week. mon - fri. weekends will be my rest days. I am also planning to join a gym now with my friend. how long do you think it will take to lose a few inches around my waist. I am about 34-36 i wud like to be 32 or less. If i follow this routine how long will it take?
