My experience in the ~~Teen Phsycward~~ , weight gain.ADHD!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

ok so i have had a lot of crazy stuff going on since winter break. my

parents and my sister thought i was on drugs (i passed the drug test, but i had a 10-sac of weed on xmas, i usually smoke about 1 every two months) so they put me in a

phyciatric childrens unit ( im 15 male) and they fed us there like

alot. we woould eat breakfast at 8, then lunch at 12, then snack at 3 ,

dinner at 6 , and snack again at 8:30. the nurses informed us that the food is high in calories, (it makes you more full than regular food) i felt like my stomach was

streching out there , because i was constantly bloated and would have a

hard time going to bathroom. i also ate all my meals , mainly because i

was bored and had nothing to do there.i was also bummed for being there. it would be so hard no to eat ,

like i felt if i didnt eat all my food on my tray i would be bored or

something, idk. well when i came in there, that was 12/31, i weighed

about 153 pounds , then i got out of that place 1/8/10 iweighed about 165

just now i weighted myself and i weight 175!!!. the eating habits kind

of stuck after i got out, and it has been hard to get back to my eating

cycle. please i need all the advice you could give me!

i eat breakfast and lunch at school , then at home i eat when i get home 3 then about at 6 , and at 9. i feel like i eat alot but its hard to control! should i take a running class at school? any simple plans / rules to stick to?

What are you eating now that you're back at home?

I never, ever eat after 8pm- and drinking water seems to help me stay full and eat less. I'd recommend cutting back on carbs and getting more active.

Are you on medication? There are a couple meds that are notorious for weight gain as a side effect. Seroquel is one of them.

Sorry you had a rough patch- how are you feeling now?

Stop eating at 9. Your body's metabolism slows down at night so it's harder to fully digest the food you ate without converting it into stored fat.

Always eat a hearty breakfast ( like egg whites and breads high in fiber), lots of veggies for lunch, and stick to eating a small meal for dinner.

Take up weight training, running for cardio, and you should see some good results in a month or two. Don't rush into losing the weight too fast.

And are you on medication? Some meds have weight gain as a sideeffect.

Crap dude- you are on some heavy meds.

Seroquel is a heavy duty drug. It is notorious for causing weight gain.

yes , i am taking 200mg seroquel 50mg of stattera

The seroquel is most likely a huge part of the reason for your weight gain.

My friend gained 50lbs while taking it and she was a walking zombie...

Yeah, the meds sound really bad.

OP, if weight gain is a really serious problem with you, I think you might have to talk to your doctor about weaning off the meds, or taking alternative meds.

The only thing you can do now is try to take up running and see if you can maintain the weight you are at now.

what is a good dose to take of seroquel and strattera so they dont make me fat?

That's for you and your doctor to discuss.

By the amount of meds you need to take, the answer can solely point to the fact that it's for your ADHD. If your doctor doesn't think you're improving, he would never tell you to wean off your drugs. Do not attempt to wean off them on your own, as that would cause more problems than none.

Just talk to your doctor. We are not substitutes for medical advice.

Sue the psych ward for emotional distress, weight gain (unhealthiness/higher risk of future heart disease), and the cost of a personal trainer to get you back to normal weight again :D
