Disillusioned
Why nobody outside NYC has tried to start a group for artistic & creative singles is a big mystery to me... but I'm sure going to try. I don't exactly feel like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but just the same I want to run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. No effort equals no results. The day before Valentine's Day, I printed up a flyer with a blurb that says, "has it been another Valentine's Day without the right person?" and below it is the group's mission statement plus some contact info, nothing cutesy or "hey baaaby" about it. I handed out 3 already. What surprised me is how receptive 2 different gallery curators seemed. Who knows, maybe they think a married artist would be a happy artist? If you know creative people at all, it's not hard to find some who are very deep (I write science fiction, so I know)... these are not the sort of people who enjoy getting drunk and dancing around with a lamp shade on their head. Anyhow, I haven't been able to find any indoor venues... but local city parks with picnic benches are ideal for the time being. Members can bring samples or pics of their work to talk about, and also food for potlucks. Edited February 14, 2010 by a LoveShack.org Moderator
crosswordfiend
Trying to get lots of creative/artistic people together is similar to herding cats. If they are actually legit artists, they work on their own schedule and can really only be productive during those times. If you want to bring lots of poseurs together, free wine and cheese at a gallery opening is all that's required. Sometimes they don't even look at the art.
Author Disillusioned
Well then, I guess all these artists' organizations here in L.A. are fakes... and our design colleges are sitting empty...
