is it safe to cook beef and shrimp together in the same pan (both raw before cooking)

You can cook them together but you will end up with rare beef and just right shrimp if you put them in the pan at the same time.

The biggie is not to use the same utensils or plates once the food is cooked that were used when the food was raw. This is how food poisoning can occur.

EXACTLY!

I live on the Florida coast and cook shrimp often. You can mix them with any meat, as long as both are fresh. Cook your meat till almost done.....then add your shrimp.

Nothing is totally irrelevant. :)

This was on the Self-Improvement and Personal Well Being section and is a fair question. LS is for relationships, but has several sections for health, general chatter, current events, etc.

I have never cooked shrimp. I don't care for shirmp - although when its mixed with the rice at Benihana it is wonderful! :D

Apparently it does not take long to cook -- how do you know when its done?

It turns pink. Shrimp starts off sort of translucent and either gray or whitish. When it cooks, it becomes a deep pink.

Overcooked shrimp is awful -- chewy and dry. But when it's cooked right it can be delicious. Maybe this is why you enjoy it at Benihana - oriental places tend not to overcook the fish and veggies, which so many other places do.
