And do you deny that there aren't alcoholics? Blaming unsatisfied housewives is an easy way to place blame. What about the men who truley have problem with alcohol and porn? Do they not deserve to catch some greif over the fact that they leave their wives un-satisfied? That they have shrugged off responsibilites to their s/o and children in the name of the drink, the porn or the gambling? .

I don't deny there are alchoholics and gambling addicts, but there are millions and millions of people who can socially drink without facing serious consequences of alchohol. So if you're married to an alchoholic, perhaps you should better spend your energy pondering why you picked the alchoholic, rather than focusing of the "boggeyman" of alchohol that supposedly "destroyed your marriage. Porn. Achohol. Drugs. Food. Television. There's really no shortage of things you can blame things for in society rather than focus on your own problems.

And for the record, I do not read "romance novels". I think they're junk. They're just soft porn in literarry form. And you can hardly compare "You've Got Mail" to a porn! A movie about two people falling in love is hardly the same thing as a two hour tape with people having mindless sex for money.

I stated my point as to how I can compare porn to romantic movies ... most of them have no artistic merit and the actors in both are degrading themselves for a paycheck.

The vast majority of people who watch porn have no more emotional attachment to the faked boobed actors as a woman does watching Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall ride a horse in the western praries in the late 19th century with perfect hair and skin and capped teeth because most people realize ITS A FREAKIN FANTASY !!! If you married a man who is so emotionally unstable that he can't tell the difference, then nothing "destroyed your marriage" .. .your marriage was doomed from the start. So you need to invest your time into examining what draws you to men like this.

I agree that there are women, and men, out there who look for an outside source to blame when something goes wrong in thier relationship. You said that unsatisfied housewives caused prohabition. From where did you get that information? Or was that simply a biased opinion?

In truth, National prohibition of alcohol was undertaken to reduce crime and corruption, solve social problems, reduce the tax burden created by prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene in America. It was, as we all know, a horrible failure. But was not caused by "unsatisfied housewives".

I am in a porn situation as some of the posters here know. I think my real life friend who caught her former husband with porn said it perfectly. At first she was really hurt and felt betrayed, cheated on etc...but after thinking it over it became trival compared to other issues in life. After deeper thought she decided that although Porn itself is trival her feelings were not and that is what she could not live with.

At one point, the women's sufferage movement and the prohibition movement were so intertwined that one didn't exist without the other.

Here's a Women's History page with link after link after link to the temperance and prohibition movement.

Or, do a google search on Carry Nation, Frances Willard, Nellie Letitia and/or Jeannette Rankin.

Thank you for the link, I'll read up on the issue.

However, I still don't think ALL the blame lies with the insecuties of women.

I agree with you. There were a lot of different factors and movements and prejudeces involved, but the notion that some women at that time had that outlawing alchohol would cause the husbands to stop drinking and bring them a happy home was misguided.
