Before anyone says I should consult a doctor, I have already called my Dr. to schedule an appointment, but she won't see me until next week.

I'm 33 yrs. old, and my period has been very regular, but for the past three months now, my period starts every 3 weeks instead of 4, and it lasts 8-10 instead of 4-6. The period is not heavy, for the first 3 days, there are traces of the period, but barely, and there is just brown stuff, no real blood (sorry :(). THe period is very light, but very long. I don't know what is the reason behind the changes, I'm concerned about it being early menopause, as I haven't had any children yet. But I also wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm taking ibuprofen pm. I have not gained or lost significant weight, I have not drastically altered my eating habits, and other than the ibuprofen, I do not take any other drugs.

Have any of you have ever experienced anything similar? Any comments would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know why yours is so many days, but I hope your doc says this is normal or at least nothing to worry about.

I am 34, (never had kids, 5'3, 130lb) so similar age to you but I guess mine have also been coming every 3 weeks, but lasts only about 4 days. I honestly didn't know if 3 weeks is abnormal for frequency.

I do have something that is unusual that happens maybe once every 2-3 years, since about 97? In a year pretty much all of my periods will be normal, some cramps, and lasting for 4-5 days. However sometimes the period gets very bad.

I mean where the cramps will actually cause me to have a fever, which in turn causes my stomach to be queasy(usually get sick because of it). And all the while, while still dealing with the cramps, I feel both hot and cold at the same time. Though I would guess this my body trying to make the fever break or something. Literally enough to lay me flat out when its like this.

SO this happens maybe 1 or 2 times a year, but then a span of years could pass, before it happens again. Ive never figured it out.

You might want to have your OBGYN run a simple blood test to check your FSH levels. This is will give an indication as to if your in peri-meno.. it's how I found out anyway.. but I am older than you. Sometimes periods can be irregular due to stress. Are you under any stress as of the late?

Yeah I did, I believe it's called spotting. I got them early last year when I did 30 day shred from Jillian Michaels everyday. I think that I shocked my body from "no exercise" to "high intensity exercise everyday".

So when I stopped, my spotting stopped too. I also had work related stress at the time.

don't worry, I don't think it's early menopause. Do you experience stress or maybe some changes in your exercise/daily routines?

The FSH test is not accurate since hormones fluctuate through out the day.

A peri or meno diagnosis is mostly based on symptoms.

Do you have any hot flashes, mid section weight gain, hair loss? Or any other ones?

It could be peri, though you're very young/

Have you been working out more or eating more protein?

To the best of my knowledge menopause age is genetic : you have 2 X-chromosomes, one from your mother, and one from your father's mother.

Do you know anything about menopause age in those two women ?

I think in most cases, menopause first signs are irregular bleeds that are heavier than the normal period (because the body is still "trying" to keep the hormone levels going, but can not keep balance).

But I'm not a GP.... so wait for yours and let us know.

Have you been stressed out? That also can affect your cycle..

Or it's just whacky thing and it'll go away on it's own.

I have been very stressed out lately, and I finally were able to get to the Dr., but I had my period again, and she couldn't do anything. She said she was not concerned with my symptoms, but I have to go back next week. Until she can do some tests on me, I will know what is going on with my body, but she said it could just be a hormonal inbalace; I will let you know.

Thanks again.
