Chatting and making new friends

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody.

Ok, this is what's going on: I've always been shy, throughout my teenager life. I don't start conversations very often, have only a few close friends, etc. But now it gets a bit frustrating. I'm a 17 year old male, and I still can't manage to interact with girls, without getting that weird feeling: "oh my gosh, don't say anything stupid". Even for the simplest things, like a 2 minute talk at school. I usually reply with simple and kinda "unrepliable" answers, like "sure", "cool", "yes, that's nice".

I think the fact that I still didn't have a relationship with any girl is what hurts and bothers the most. This fact sometimes makes me think that I'm no good for them, and that just makes me even more incapable to talk to them.

I seriously want to overcome this shyness and lack of self-esteem that sometimes tears me apart. I apreciate sugestion, point of view, etc.

Thank you for your time, and sorry for my bad english ^^ =P

Firstly Don't worry about your English :) You seem to have a pretty good grasp on it, and can probably speak it better then I could any other language tbh.

I don't think anyone really knows how to truly communicate with the opposite gender at 17. I sure as heck didn't. Around that age, I assure you girls are worried about the same things most likely.

There really is no one way to do it really, it depends on the person. You're worried about saying the wrong thing so you clam up. Well that's not going to make you seem approachable. You'll have to take baby steps and muster up the courage to talk more to girls.

Start with small stuff, like what movies or music they like. I'm afraid there is no way to just snap your fingers and suddenly be a ladies man. You will get positive responses, but also negative reactions which you have just take it on the chin and move on.

Those baby steps you mentioned are indeed the ones that I'm looking for :) the "music or movie" subject seems a pretty straight-forward strategy. In some rare occasions, I can manage to have a 5 minute trash-talk with a girl, introduced by a friend of mine, for example. But these opportunities aren't very common, and that messes up my game a little bit.

Here is one example of what I'm talking about: one thing girls of my age love to do around here is to go out at night, go to a disco, have some shots and arrive home at 5 AM. Going to a disco has become very popular around here, and honestly, that's not what I like to do in my free nights. I prefer to take someone to dinner at a restaurant, go see a movie and be home at mid-night.

Sadly, there a very little amount of girls that prefer this "dating style". Almost all of them prefer to go out and have a one-night-stand every week. So it's kinda hard to make a move, since I'm kinda separated from most of the girls.

Sorry for this long description, but I kinda needed to throw this out my chest lol...then again, any girl will do to practice my baby steps. I can only see the bright side, i suppose :)

all posts are welcome =D
