sappy
Im only fourteen but I want a job really bad. Im smart and I can learn to do anything but I think employers will under estimate me because I am a teenager. How or where do I look to get a job with a schedule that still allows me to go to school? Tony T
In most places, there are state and local laws governing the employment of minors under 18. Most workmen's compensation insurance companies will not insure minors. There are many other kinds of risks that employers take in employing people your age. I do understand your desire to work and I wouldn't give up. You might want to think about beginning your own business, selling some sort of product or service. That might be easier for you to do. Also understand that we are in a time of high unemployment and low economic activity so it's a bit more difficult to find jobs...even for those who are older. You can check out places that do hire young people and see what kind of reception you get. Car washes, auto dealerships, shopping malls, etc. hire young people. See if you qualify. Otherwise, be patient and enjoy your youth. There will be plent of time for work. One day you will accumulate stacks of bills and have to work for decades before you can retire. Being able to enjoy life right now without the responsibility of busting your butt might be a blessing.
dyermaker
Started working at a non-chain pizza place when I was fourteen. I don't think that was legal though.

sappy
I was hoping to get into a store or along that lines. I dont think I even can consider restaurants unless its by being a hostess.
dyermaker
Restauraunts are your best bet, most retail jobs, at least nowadays, require a work permit no doubt, as well as some sort of experience. You could bus tables, or answer phones or something. Talk to your school about getting a work permit.
Errol
Try your local library. You probably will need a work permit -- but they are not difficult to get. What about babysitting? You could make some flyers and advertise your service. Mowing lawns, shoveling snow -- those are good too.
dyermaker
At least in my state, You don't need a permit to do the things that Errol described.
