To Facebook or not to Facebook....

Ok... So I've had a crush on this guy for about 4-5 months. We were taking the same class in autumn term. I didn't notice him much until one session where he sat next to me and kind of acted funny (being really silly with his friends, turned his seat around to face me, basically drawing attention to himself). I'm a very shy girl around people I don't really know so I just pretty much stared at the floor the whole time not knowing how to react, just smiling occasionally. Since then I've seen him around campus on almost a daily basis. I try to say hi if the opportunity arises or at least glance over. He's giving mixed signals (He'll say hi back if I say hello. Often he'll completely ignore me, but I sometimes ignore him too (to hide my crush from my friends mainly)... Sometimes he seems to look at me out of the corner of his eye when passing me, and the other day he gave me an awkward little smile). So anyway, this has been going on, and apart from the fact that I really can't read his signals or absence thereof, there is never an opportunity to get talking to him. We're in different departements, and whenever I see him either I am with a bunch of friends or he is, or we're just hurrying past each other in the corridor on our way to different classes. I've gone to some uni events recently where I thought he might be (although I hasten to add that wasn't the main reason for me going), but anyway, he wasn't.

I'm beginning to think the dreaded facebook might be the only way to establish contact? Call me old fashioned, but the thought of having to use the internet to contact someone you see almost every day seems pretty grim to me. Plus, would I not come over as a complete stalker? I suspect he must have noticed I like him... But there's just no way of telling.

I feel a bit weird asking this question because it makes me sound like such a child (I'm 25) ... But would love some advice. Yay or nay?

Thanks, yes I see where you're coming from... Well, I occasionally say hi to him when my voice doesn't fail me, and he'll usually say something back, like awrite? but he never actually says hi to me first, and I'm worried he's just being poilte and I might actually be annoying him and coming on too strong.

By the way, he's four years youger than me :o/

Hermit, add him and start the conversation. Let him know you are interested and this is the way that you have the courage to approach him. Honesty is great and there are many love testimonials that started with online communication.

Yeah do it! If a girl I knew who had a crush on me added me I'd be flattered, even if I was not interested in dating her. Either that or it'd make me interested ;) From the sound of it I don't think you're coming on too strong. Coming on too strong is pouring out all your feelings and emotions before you've even started talking to him.

Of course feel out the situation. Sometimes the internet makes it really easy to create awkward situations. I'd say start off casual, and see where it takes off from there.

I would say go for it an add him.. The nice thing about the internet and facebook is if you do a friends request it could ONLY be with the notion that you guys are aware of each others existence in person.. I highly doubt that he would reject the friends request.. If he accepts it then maybe way a little while and then send him a message.. You won't know the possibilites until you persue it.. At least via internet its less emotional and you have more of a protective wall..
