sally4sara
I do the P90X. It works but I hated it's schedule. It is relentless; every effing day but Sunday? I'm not trying out for American Gladiators or anything. Now I modified it for my needs (I do the Kenpo and yoga and one of the grueling ones combined with a cross country machine when I can fit it into the week). It was just too hard to fit it into my weekly schedule without being sleep deprived. Not sure what your needs are, but it will definitely burn your butt and work your shoulders. I am not familiar with the other program.
Author underpants
Insanity is everyday except Sunday as well. All cardio. It is like PE class from Hell. I have yet to make it through the warm up without having to break, but I'm getting better. Today I made it to round 3 of warm ups before I had to have a moment. According to the scale I used last week I lost 3 and 1/2 pounds in a week. That is motivating. I've lost some inches as well so I'd say I'm getting results. I hope they continue. I do have more energy rounding out week 3. I fear phase 2.
kimbop
I bought the P90X a few weeks and gave it a test run. I've also done personal training sessions with a professional at the gym. And my personal trainer teaches an intense kickboxing class which consists of using handweights and then kicking/punching on bags. I also do "water aerobics" which consists of swimming sprints and then doing push ups from the deep end. The best obviously is the personal training sessions. It's literally hell. He likes to do timed circuit training/kettle balls/plyo-metrics type exercises, and afterwards I can barely walk straight. It's super expensive, so I had to stopped (and thus gained a lot of weight). The P90X has killer weight training sessions but their cardio videos are not challenging at all. I run about fifteen miles a week, and the various cardio classes at the gym are easily at least twice as hard if not more. So I just stopped using the videos for the cardio and stretch/yoga. The gym classes are much better, and you get personal attention. I'm a girl, so my weakness lies in strength/weight lifting. So anything that consists of strength training is intense for me. But if I was one of those guys I see at the gym who are gym rats, I wouldn't think the videos are worth the time. I believe anything that focuses the mix of cardio/strength/diet would be enough to adequately replace P90X. But that's just my personal opinion. I just finished the ab ripper X which I like to do when I don't have my gym classes and it's adequate, but it doesn't replace class.

I think if we are already accustomed to circuit or HIIT training, P90X is adequate but not the best. My kickboxing class is hand down the best conditioning class that push me over the edge as far as fitness wise (and in 50 mins, I burned over 600 calories with heart rate went to over 190 - still burning even an hour after exercises). It's pretty much p90X times 3. We did it in a group of 14 ppl. I did Abs ripper 2 nights ago too, it's ok for an add-on but can't compare against the drills that we do in MMA or kickboxing where we did it continuously for 30 mins without stopping. Lucky me, it's only $4 per session because the class is sponsored by my company. Even if I quit my company and go directly to the academy, this costs about $49 per month which I think is totally worth it. Maybe instead of one one one personal trainer, you might look at your MMA gym? They usually have killer conditioning class, similar to crossfit and they might have some deals so might be cheaper. If you are in California, I know some places that run crazy deals and I can pm you the information.
