Waaaay too emotional

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about my life a lot recently and now realize that I am too emotional. Also mostly, I have always thought that I got along with pretty much everyone, but now I dont know if that is the case and it upsets me a little. Emotionally, I have flipped out about 4 times in the last 9 months (it is easy to calculate, since they are such big events). My girlfriend of only a couple weeks--which is what makes this even more ridiculous made out with a random guy while right next to me. I went on like a 3 week bender and said tons of mean things about her (never to her though--I hate confrontation). Then my best friend got expelled. Same thing. Then I didn't get a job and started freaking out about the rest of my life. That was a day-long meltdown. A girl made fun of me for being weak; she became my enemy for a while. Those are the times. But I feel so guilty for getting upset about everything. I also kinda feel like a fake since really only my friends (in general) ever see that side of me. My dad does exactly the same thing, as do my mom and sister but to a lesser degree. So I know where I get it from. Any idea on how to stop getting upset about things and taking them so personally?

Hey Bear...it's hard not to be emotional, in fact emotions can be a good thing if they are under control...I would suggest councelling and keeping a journal.

I flip out too and am just at the brinks of discovering why...maybe I hold too much in, then blow a fuse?

The thing with that girl was messed up dude, bad, she was like way uncool....possibly being more aware of what the triggers are, meaning the things that "set" you off. Maybe you take too much in stride and then there is a build up?

Good luck Bear, you are cool!

If high emotions run in the family, then it's not uncommon for you to have picked up this trait. Nothing wrong with beign emotional, but when it starts to affect you in a negative way.. then it's time to get to the root cause of it. It sounds like right now.. you have a a few stressors that would by all means kick your emotions into high gear... that's not abnormal. You mentioned you went on a bender? I assume you mean drinking to much. If that is the case.. heavy drining will only make your mental helath worse and NOT better... so you might want to cut back on the drinking for now. I think seeing a counsleor might be in your best interest. Would you consider that?

I would also strongly recommend keeping a journal.I would suggest some physical exercise especially a jog in the park, early morning.it would clear your mind and make you energetic.

Plan your day in advance and work your plan.this would keep you focused on your objectives and not let your mind wander. You just need a bit of discipline and organization and you will be fine.

What do you do to cope with stress?
